My Daughter's Favorite,
By Gina Martinez (Houston, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Meet Josefina (American Girl) (Paperback)
This is my daughter's favorite American Girl! This book is the first in a series of 6 about a 9 yr. old Hispanic girl growing up in New Mexicio in the year 1824. In the beginning it shows pictures of Josefina's friends & family. Basically, the series is about how Josefina's family survives on their 'rancho' after their mother dies. The books go into Hispanic culture and history. At the end of the book are photographs of some of the things mentioned in the story, as well as a glossary of spanish words. My 7 yr. old daughter has no problem reading these books by herself.

Wonderful,
By Kurt A. Johnson (North-Central Illinois, USA) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Meet Josefina (American Girl) (Paperback)
This is the first in the American Girls series about Josefina Montoya, a nine-year-old girl living in the New Mexico of 1824. In this book, Josefina and her sisters wait for their grandfather to return from his annual trip to Mexico City. Each girl hopes that he will bring her her heart's desire. However, what Josefina desires is more complicated than what her sisters' desire: she wants her sisters to be at peace and her newly widowed father to be happy again. Can her grandfather bring such gifts? You must read to find out!The final chapter is a fascinating and highly informative look into life in New Mexico in 1824. All the way through, Jean-Paul Tibbles beautiful illustrations help to make this a wonderful book. This book is every bit as wonderful as the other American Girls books, and its look at Mexico is quite refreshing. My daughter has only recently begun to read about Josefina, and she loves the stories. I must admit that I love them too. In particular, I liked the fact that the family's religious faith is incorporated into the story. We both highly recommend this book to you.

I Feel Like I Really Met Josefina,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Meet Josefina- Hc Book (American Girl) (Hardcover)
Josefina, a Spanish girl, lives in New Mexico with her father and three older sisters. Her story takes place in 1824 New Mexico, on her father's ranch. New Mexico was still a part of Mexico, then. When her mother dies, Josefina and her sisters must struggle to cope until a surprise arrives with her Abuelito's caravan from Mexico City, which gives her hope and a wonderful idea. The story has a happy ending, and I couldn't wait to read the rest of the books in this series! I recommend this book to any girl who likes excitement and adventure.

This review is from: Meet Josefina: An American Girl (American Girl Collection Series) (Turtleback)
Josefina is the newest American Girl! Another great character to a wonderful series. Josefina is a 9 year old Hispanic girl from 1824 New Mexico. Her Tia Delores comes (Tia means aunt in Spanish) and brings the most wonderful thing to the Montoya rancho. A piano! But the girls just suffered an awful loss, their mothers death. Can Tia Delores bring happiness to the house? Josefina must also overcome her fear of the mean, old goat who destroys one of her most favorite things.

The Beginning of an Excellent Series,
By
This review is from: Meet Josefina (American Girl) (Paperback)
My daughter (aged 4) and I have enjoyed all of the Josefina books. Though the death of her mother is a major plot point in this story (and in most of the other stories in this series), it occurs a year before the events in the book, and no details of the death are presented. The book deals primarily with the griefing process, life on a New Mexican rancho in the early 19th century, and the arrival of Josefina's aunt. All the books in the series are very informative and present the New Mexican culture in an interesting and positive way. I highly recommend the series!

Josefina is a charming girl,

Here is my confession: Josefina is my own personal American Girl doll that I bought back in junior high.
Some time ago I pulled this book out again, read it, and was immediately transported back to that time of childhood and the ways of the American Girl dolls and their stories--all in the context of American history. This reaches back to a pre-U.S. New Mexico to a sweet little girl named Josefina who is growing up with her sisters and widowed father on a ranch. She's likeable, sweet, and very much devoted to her family. I immediately fell in love with her.

Meet Josefina,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Meet Josefina (American Girl) (Paperback)
I liked this book because it showed a little bit of a different culture. It showed that even though it was set in 1824 in New Mexico, that the things that are important are the same to people everywhere. Also it was an exciting book. I would recommend it.

1824 in New Mexico,
By Peanutbudder (Vancouver, BC, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Meet Josefina (American Girl) (Paperback)
I like the American Girl Collection. It's my favorite series of books (except Captain Underpants). Since I live in 2001 right now, Josefina isn't new. Right now the newest American Girl is Kit. I don't have an American Girl doll yet. I will soon. I'm going to get Josefina. Josefina Montoya has a big (and I mean big) problem. Her Mamá has died. Only her Papá is left. But there is a goat being very mean to Josefina. Can Josefina overcome her fear of goats? Or will she be doomed? The book is way better than "Meet Felicity". The book is better than "Meet Felicity" because "Meet Josefina" has a slightly better story plot.

Meet Josefina,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Meet Josefina, An American Girl (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) (American Girls Collection: Josefina 1824) (School & Library Binding)
Is an American Girl book. It tells the story of how they lived back in 1824.I liked it so much that I'll give it 5 stars. Josefina's mom had died and tia Dolores changes Josefinas life. Josefina learns that even though someone or something is not with you or dies you should move on and meet new people and try new things. The book was exciting when Josefina faces her fear of a maen goat named Florecita. I thought it was well written. Other kids will enjoy it because it is a book that goes baack in timeto 1824 and what they did back then and how they lived.
