Editorial Reviews

Lady Luck is in the building in this star-studded 1950s Vegas musical comedy. A funny thing happened to rancher Chuck Rodman (Dan Dailey) ever since he grabbed the hand of a passing ballerina. He can't lose! Hold her hand at the roulette table and he's a winner. At the slots...jackpot. Take the danseuse to the homestead to meet mama...a dry oil well comes in. Think maybe the pair should head for the altar? Lovely Cyd Charisse dazzles in this musical showpiece set in part in the mid-century Sands Hotel and peppered with credited and uncredited stars from Old Blue Eyes, Lena Horne, Debbie Reynolds, Frankie Laine, Peter Lorre and the list goes on. Capping the fun: Charisse's bebop ballet Frankie and Johnny, voice by Sammy Davis Jr.

This musical is overall just OK. What is noteworthy is the dance sequences by Cyd Charisse which are wonderful. The plot moves along at a average pace, the acting is OK nothing spectacular. When compared with other musicals with Cyd Charisse eg The Bandwagon and Silk Stockings both of which are great, this one comes up a little short.
