Kids of all ages will be inspired by the spirit and determination that took Maya Angelou from a difficult childhood in rural Arkansas to international recognition as a writer, poet, actress, dancer, producer, composer, professor, and political activist.
I was born in Philadelphia and after graduating college, began traveling alone around the US. I traveled mostly by bus and occasionally hitchhiked. I loved horses, so I worked on a ranch in Idaho. I was interested in natural childbirth practices, so I lived and apprenticed with a home-birth midwife in Maine. I loved wild places so I hiked the deserts of New Mexico, explored Baja, California and watched the sun set in Key West, Florida. My travels brought me to New England and eventually I settled in Massachusetts where I raised my two sons, Nicholas and Evan.
A passionate and steady spiritual practice sustains my life and work.
