When I received the book, the first thing I did was flip to the "About the Author" page and I was really pleased to see that Ms. Bacon had both a degree in psychology and a background in law enforcement. Those things gave me high hopes that the book would contain some real insight and solid information about the on-line dating dynamic that would work alongside the real-life experiences she'd be sharing with the reader. I was so wrong. Her introduction was pretty good, however, once she got into the advice and anecdotes the book went straight down hill. I found her level of social naiveté to be kind of shocking and her inability to understand why someone (both her dates and her readers) would do something, or even view a situation, differently from her personal viewpoint or opinion, downright irritating. Also, the attempts at humor led me to far more "Huh?" moments than "Ha!" moments. I think the author was going for wit, but she missed. What she got was sarcastic and even demeaning to her readers in several places. I had to force myself to continue past about page 20. The second half of the book was a bit better than the first, but by then she'd already lost me.

I've read enough on-line ads to know that there are people out there who actually *do* need to be told to post a good picture, use spell checker, don't lie in your ad, and do your best not to sound desperate. But, if you're beyond that point and looking for a guide that will help you compose a stand-out ad, write follow-up messages that will help you screen out people who aren't for you, get you to the next level with people who are your type, and safely, successfully, negotiate the transition from on-line and e-mail to face-to-face; do yourself a favor and skip this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars How annoying...., October 2, 2005

I can hardly read this...every cliche you can imagine and some more. Sarcastic, mocking, with tips such as...your picture is very important. A waste of $$. Don't let this book discourage you from getting on line to meet a match.

As a "seasoned" online dater, I can honestly say that following Bev Bacon's advice will make your online life much better and easier! I've read the other books, and rather than rehash the same old tired, cookie-cutter BS that fills other internet dating books and websites, this book provides a proven framework that you can use to be original, interesting and attractive. Practically every internet dater makes the same mistakes and ends up as just another (boring) face in the crowd. Read this book and learn how to avoid those mistakes, and learn how to stand out from the crowd and get noticed. I love good comedy and not only is the book's information dead-on accurate, her writing style will make you laugh 'til your face hurts. Here's your chance, get it and get dates!

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, March 19, 2006

This review is from: Meet Me...Don't Delete Me. Internet Dating: I've Made All The Mistakes So You Don't Have To! (Paperback)
Don't waste your money. I bought this book and read it cover to cover without gleaming an ounce of useful information. Firstly it is primarily geared towards women, not much useful in there for us guys. That being said unless you are a 5 year old girl or have been kept in a box your entire life, all the suggestions are plain and simple common sense. The book has numerous stories of Bev Bacons' encounters with dates. There is absolutely nothing funny or out of the ordinary about her dates. It just goes to show that no one is perfect. As one would think the ultimate goal of Internet dating is to find a long term partner I was left wondering why the author spent so many years dating. Maybe it is her that has a problem! The only useful information that I took home from reading the book I gained from reading between the lines. This is that the internet will attract those who like "shopping" for their dates. So if you meet someone who loves shopping run away, run away, because next week when you are out of fashion they will be back on the internet looking for something bigger and better. Alternatively if you are out of work consider doing the same as the author, write a book about common sense things to do, then spend a year dating normal people and write a book about it, then con loads of people into buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars fun, informative, entertaining!!, June 20, 2005
This review is from: Meet Me...Don't Delete Me. Internet Dating: I've Made All The Mistakes So You Don't Have To! (Paperback)
Really enjoyed the book...lots of humor, lots of great information to help those who are currently online dating or those who have been thinking about it. Bev gives you a lot of great tidbits, lots of things you need to look for in a "dating mate" before taking the "plunge" and wasting your time and your heart! Nothing like getting all excited about the perfect "date" and then finding out later in the dating process that they leave out that little fact of ...Oh I am married or have a girlfriend, guess it just slipped my mind when I asked you out! Lots of other great info...a must to read before going out into the online dating world.!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Online Dating Story, November 4, 2004

This review is from: Meet Me...Don't Delete Me. Internet Dating: I've Made All The Mistakes So You Don't Have To! (Paperback)
Ok, this book was difficult for me to rate. I loved the book itself...it's a great read and gives tons of good advice if you're looking to meet someone online.

However, I took the book's advice and ended up meeting someone online (so it DOES work). I met this guy on a site called catch27.com, and he seemed really awesome when I chatted with him online and talked with him on the phone. BUT, when we met in person, he was terrible! Rude, loud, and obnoxious...the date was just aweful!

Now I understand that this was just one experience, but it's made me question the idea of meeting people online - you can never be sure of what you're going to get. So, while the book is a wonderful and interesting read, make sure you're really ready to meet someone online before you take any of its advice!
