You're going to hear about these girls very, very soon. They've exploded on the British pop scene and their universal appeal will catapult them over to the States any day now. The Pipettes are an unabashed sugary-sweet 60s-style girl group with group harmonizing, hand claps, and even over-the-top Phil Specter-ish arrangements. They are redonkulously catchy. But even if you don't like The Angels or The Shirelles, the Pipettes also have high-energy tunes that will bring to mind The Go-Gos and Toni Basil (in particular, "We Are The Pipettes" and their most memorable track "Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me").

The Pipettes have the musical chops and great singing voices of the best girl groups of the Sixties (eg: the Shirlelles and the Ronettes), however: they are not forced to sing inane lyrics. Their lyrics are delicious, biting, intelligent. The music is very energetically arranged and quite lovely.

I first heard these gals watching London Live on INHD and have been hooked on them ever since. Their sound is reminiscent of Phil Spector produced girl groups of the 50s and 60s. But with songs entitled "One Night Stand" and "Dirty Mind" the lyrics of the songs have been updated to relate more to this generation of music listeners. Fantastic harmonies on all the tracks, sometimes they remind my of Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson of the B-52's. The Pipettes make music that can easily cross generational gaps. They are definitely worth a listen.
