An Introductory Study,
By A Customer
This review is from: Meet the Prophets: A Beginner's Guide to the Books of the Biblical Prophets (Paperback)
Miller presents a genre of biblical literature by focusing on seven of the prophets: Amos, Hosea, Isaiah, Micah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and "Second Isaiah". Using the historical-critical method of analysis, he first decides which sections of a biblical book he believes to be truly written by the original prophet. This analysis of the compositional history affects his further analysis of the person of the prophet. Through textual clues, he attempts to paint a picture of the original author. After thus looking at the book and the author, Miller summarizes the theology of that author as presented in that book. Finally, he asks what relevance this message had in the twentieth century.Miller also includes a few introductory chapters that look at the nature of prophecy, and two summary chapters that briefly cover the additional prophets found in the bible but not covered in depth in his book. Each chapter in Miller 's book ends with a series of study questions to help the reader recall the central points of the chapter. I would recommend this book for those who have some familiarity with the historical-critical method, but have never studied the prophets in depth. God bless you as you allow your faith to seek understanding.

Well Organized Look at the Prophets,
By
This review is from: Meet the Prophets: A Beginner's Guide to the Books of the Biblical Prophets (Paperback)
This book is a well organized and interesting look at the prophets of the Old Testament. The four introductory chapters on the prophets are very good, and then the individual treatment of selected prophets is excellent. This has been a very valuable educational tool.
