A very interesting illustated book,
This review is from: Meet Sailor Mars: Fire (Sailor Moon Scout Guides) (Paperback)
This is a translated version of the Japanese fan book for Sailor Mars (in the anime). It has many details about Rei and her incarnation as Mars. There is some Americanization, but it has been translated pretty straightforwardly. It's everything you'd ever want to know about Sailor Mars, with lots of nice pictures. It includes pictures and references up to the fourth season, SuperS (but it only really covers the first three seasons in detail). I highly recommend it!

Mediocre translation of a great original,
By Tiffany (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Meet Sailor Mars: Fire (Sailor Moon Scout Guides) (Paperback)
I have the Japanese version of this book, but I read through this version that a friend of mine bought. While I think it is good that they translated these books for fans and made these available, many of the facts and translations are completely different from the original. There is a section for the five best episodes with Sailormars. Some of these come from the later series like S and SuperS, so they don't really make sense and they mix up facts. One of the most annoying part of this was in the best scene sections, it talked about the last episode of the first season. It has a scene from the original Japanese episode (which was two episodes long) that wasn't shown in the american episode. Next to the picture it talks about how Mars fainted after the battle witht he D&G girls and thought of Chad. First of all people, in that episode all the senshi DIE, they don't faint, thats what the picture was! And she was thinking about Sailormoon. It is small inaccuracies like these that are found throughout the book that really takes away from the real meaning of the story. I'm not saying that this book is all bad, its not. If you haven't seen the original version then maybe this book isn't so bad for you. Or if you have, its a good book with all the pictures and basic facts of the original, just be aware of the inaccuracies.

Extremely Dissapointed,
This review is from: Meet Sailor Mars: Fire (Sailor Moon Scout Guides) (Paperback)
I am an avid Sailor Moon fan and so I buy anything and everything I can. I bought this book for twelve dollars, which is an absurd amount of money for such a small thing. The book contained nothing new to me, there were spelling errors and some captions did not pertain to the actual picture. I would not reccomend buying this book, it is a complete waste of money, and believe me I've spent enough money on Sailor Moon stuff to know when something is good and when something is bad. This is bad.

Behind The Scenes With Sailor Mars,
By
This review is from: Meet Sailor Mars: Fire (Sailor Moon Scout Guides) (Paperback)
Yet another easy-read Scout Guide with bits of info, and cool pictures. The most interesting parts of this book for me, were Sailor Mars' transformation and attacks, although they weren't in very good order, the pages showing Raye's different clothes and favorite fashions, and the 50 Secrets Of Sailor Mars section. I noticed that unlike the other books, the index in this book was in the back, and instead of pictures of the other Scout Guides in the back, it just showed the names in the front. But those two minor things should not affect your decision on whether or not to buy this book in any way, because they are simply differences, not cons.
I noticed, too, that Sailor Mars/Raye seems to change in every picture. In some pictures, her face is thin and mature, in others, it's plump and her eyes are big, and some pictures look more like someone who would be Raye's almost-identical older sister. They're still great pictures, though. Especially the exclusive ones, which are, in my opinion, prettier then the ones taken from the TV series and from the movies. I would recommend this book if you are new to Sailor Moon, and are wanting to learn more about Sailor Mars, or if you are a Sailor Mars or Sailor Moon fan in search of an easy and entertaining read. I would NOT recommend this book to die-hard Sailor Moon fans looking for information they don't already know, because this book, like I said, is basically just stuff taken from the TV series. CAUTION: This book contains very mature content, and should not be freely read by children under twelve or thirteen.

Umm...Uh....,
This review is from: Meet Sailor Mars: Fire (Sailor Moon Scout Guides) (Paperback)
Uh..Well,When I bought this book, I was a little disapointed. I mean there are kinda of a lot of mistakes in this book. Like, for example, in the back of the book there is a picture of Sailor Mars dieing and what did Mixx decide to put? "I "fainted" when I was fighting the Doom and Gloom( I know I'm getting off the subject but didn't Dic already use that name for another enemy??)girls and when I "fainted" I was thinking of "Chad"!!" I mean, if your gonna say ANYTHING about the fight in the first season of Sailor Moon,or anything about Sailor Moon, shouldn't you just tell the TRUTH instead of LIE?! Sure, they might wanna change it scince little kids probally can't handle seeing ALL of the senshi die,but it happens and stuff like that could even show that not EVERYONE is imortal. Maybe . But anyway, don't get this book unless you need space fillers in your anime collection or if you just are desparate and need to look at pictures.Happy Reading!!:) P.S. Did I mention there are a ton of more mistakes then the one I explained?

Pretty good if you are a Mars fan,
By Zeus's daughter (The Lone Star State) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Meet Sailor Mars: Fire (Sailor Moon Scout Guides) (Paperback)
I am a Sailor Mars fan so I enjoyed seeing the pictures and reading the stats. Basically my problem is that I don't think the book was edited thoroughly. You had to read about the pictures from right to left; otherwise they were out of order. It seemed to change point-of-views without letting you know it was doing so. Sometimes Raye was talking, other times Serena, and then the author. Also the stats weren't necessarily facts as they were Raye's comments about the subject i.e. her weight and Chad. But it is a cute book and good for any Mars fan, and despite the problems I stated above, I enjoyed it.

Good handling of translation,
This review is from: Meet Sailor Mars: Fire (Sailor Moon Scout Guides) (Paperback)
I already had the original Japanese version of this book so I was curious as to how Mixx handled the translation. To begin with, the main draw of the fan books are, for me at least, the pictures. These are there in all their full-color glory, same layouts and everything. As for the accompaning text . . . well, my first reaction was that it sounded really upbeat. Almost to the point of sounding forced. But then I went and looked at my Japanese version, especially the section where Serena is commenting on pictures, and the comments there are pretty corny too. And I was very glad that the friendship between Serena and Rei wasn't played down any. So the book gets a thumbs-up. I've noticed some people complaining about the "poems" not rhyming. I have two things to say about this. One, poems don't have to rhyme! Sheesh. Besides, they are translated from Japanese. It's practically impossible to translate something accurately from another language and retain the rhyming scheme. Secondly, they aren't really poems. They're the lyrics to the "image" or character songs sung by the Japanese voice actress that were released on CDs in Japan.

Great but too short,
This review is from: Meet Sailor Mars: Fire (Sailor Moon Scout Guides) (Paperback)
I really like this book. It is in full color and has TONS of pictures of Raye (Mars). It also has pictures of the main people in Raye's life: the scouts/senshi, Chad, Grandpa Hino etc. It has 50 secrets about Mars (very cute!), the top 5 Mar's episodes, and a picture gallery. This only problem is how short the book is. I was surprised it cost $12 but was so thin. Overall, I recommend you buy if you like the show.

What is their PROBLEM!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Meet Sailor Mars: Fire (Sailor Moon Scout Guides) (Paperback)
I think something is seriously wrong with Mixx. Do they not have an editor or clean-up crew? I am sick and tired of their haphazard work. Of course, they had to Americanize it. All the names and terms were changed to the English version (Negaverse, Andrew). Except for the Outer Senshi. Thank God this book came out before S and Super S were dubbed. They make so many freaking mistakes it's not funny. They call Eudial "Yujiaru", and in the Jupiter book they called her "Yujiasu." Neither of those is correct. It's just "Eudial"! They mix Japanese terms with English ones. They call the Black Moon the "Dead Moon." They call Usagi Bunny, then they call her Serena. There are simple spelling and grammatical errors. Also, when they translated the Sailor Moon manga, they kept the villain names the same. They kept "Dark Kingdom", well, "Dark Kingdom." So, in this book, why did they call the Dark Kingdom the "Negaverse" (A cheesy DiC translation)? Remember the part in the last episode (about) where the Sailor Senshi DIED? Well, they have Mars' "death" in here, along with a pic, but what does it say? "When we fought the DD girls, I fainted. And when I fainted I thought about Chad." What the heck! She sounded like a third-grader or something! And that information is not correct. When they fought, she DIED, along with Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury (Moon followed suite later). And when she died, she was encouraging Sailor Moon to fight and win, she was NOT thinking about Chad (Who should be Yuuchirou. Or however you spell it.) They also have this thing where they tell about Rei's best five episodes. They put the screencaps and text under or beside the pictures, telling the story. Well, translated into English they make it very hard to read. And, they don't reverse it, so you'll be reading it backward, not having a clue what's going on. They also screw up when naming Mars' attacks and transformations. "Mars Fire Ignition"? "Mars Power Transform"? Okay then, then why in the Jupiter book (or Venus) they put, "Jupiter Power, Make-Up!" The "Make-Up" was only in the Japanese anime. So again, we have a senseless mix-up of Japanese and English terms. They should have just kept the Japanese names and terms, but no, they had to go with DiC's horrible translation. And then we have the book size and name. In Japan, they were oringinally called "Fanbooks." Mixx had to rename them "Scout Guides." -_- Also, I'm sure that the Japanese versions were a lot bigger. The Mixx version is SMALL! If you know how big an issue of "Disney Adventures" is, that's the size of this "Scout Guide." I was appalled at the price. Thirteen bucks for something this small, cheap, and sloppy? I really wish I could read Japanese, cause I would get the original one in a heartbeat. I would get this book ONLY if you know all the original terms and names, so it won't matter.
