From 1964 onwards British bands exported rock/pop music back to the US which caused a cosmic change in how the whole scene progressed and diversified.
It may be difficult to believe, but of all the Britsh bands of the 1960s, my favourite is The Searchers. Like The Beatles they hailed from the northern seaport of Liverpool.
Meet The Searchers was released in summer 1963 and is a collection of a few of their own compositions, but mostly their interpretations of US songs, often minor hits and B sides.
Their style is all around the famed Mersey Beat, with melodic guitar and vocal harmonies.
When they hit top form this is sensatonal, for example Sweets For My Sweet, Love Potion Number Nine, Money (That's What I Want), Since You Broke My Heart and Twist And Shout.
Add to that the seminal Where Have All The Flowers Gone and I detect an influence on such great acts as The Byrds and Love.
The album comes in mono and bar 2 songs, in stereo too.
Also there are foreign language versions.
If you like 1960s music, this should be seriously considered.

De la gran cantidad de grupos de la invasión británica aparecidos a principios de los 60, ninguno de los competidores más serios de los Beatles (Animals, Kinks, Hollies, Stones) habían editado discos en 1963, mientras los grupos "menores" (Gerry & Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer o Freddie & The Dreamers) han caído en el olvido pese a haber tenido sus meses de fama. The Searchers pertenece a este segundo nivel de grupos y su disco debut es uno de los pocos que los fans de los Beatles pueden escuchar sin terminar decepcionados.

los 4 temas con que arranca el álbum son dinámicas piezas beat, Sweets for my Sweet y Love Potion Nș9 fueron los mayores exitos, mientras Alright y Farmer John muestran al grupo en lo que mejor hace: adaptar canciones al sonido beat, esto es imprimiéndoles velocidad y potencia instrumental, al igual que ocurre en Ain't Gonna Kiss Ya y Tricky Dicky. Por otro lado, los covers más famosos no estan al nivel de los originales o de otras versiones. Twist and Shout es particularmente plana y sin brillo, Money es un poco mejor pero no hace olvidar a ya sabemos quien, mientras Stand By Me parece haber sido hecha sólo por cumplir. La reposada Where Have All The Flowers Gone presagia el futuro sonido folk del grupo, alejándose del tono del disco.

Uno de los grandes problemas de los Searchers es su casi nula capacidad de escribir temas propios. Una vez más, estamos en 1963 y muy pocos lo hacían por entonces, pero es una de las razones que podrían explicar su poca evolución en los años siguientes. Eso se perdona en Meet The Searchers, un irregular pero buen trabajo de los primeros días del sonido Mersey, aunque el paso del tiempo no lo deje muy bien parado.
