3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings
I hate it when I get mixed feelings over a book. Meeting Mr. Wrong: The ROmantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle, however, proved itself to be such a book.

First off, I have to say that I am a huge chick lit fan and although this book is a true story, it read like a chick lit which was a definite plus for me. I also love the storyline. A woman trying to...

Left high and dry, pregnant with twins, just off the altar, Snowe plunges head-first into the internet dating world, despite being told that if she did so an axe murderer would hunt her down and kill her. After weeks of wading through emails from men who clearly were not paying attention to, you know, anything, Snowe ventures onto her first date with Denny and, apparently, all of his coworkers. Thus start the Romantic Misadventures of Ms. Snowe. You'll have to read the book to find out whether Snowe ever finds love in the internet dating world, how fun a date during a hurricane is, and exactly what is so distracting about Big Pimpin' Willie's tattoo.

Very special books do not cross my desk very often, but I am delighted to have read Meeting Mr. Wrong: The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle. Snowe writes with such conversational wit that you could imagine laughing with disbelief as she told you her tales over coffee (or a good stiff drink!) I enjoyed Meeting Mr. Wrong so much I finished it the evening it arrived on my doorstep. I very much look forward to her next installment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this book if you love to laugh, February 11, 2009

Some people are natural-born storytellers, and that's a skill that cannot be taught, bought, or faked. Stephanie Snowe is a natural storyteller. We cringe with her, laugh with her, and root for her throughout her book, and through it all we maintain hope that Prince Charming is waiting in the final pages. Stephanie is able to take a time in her life that must have been very difficult, and use the power of her talent to turn it into an entertaining, heartfelt read. She knows how to select just the right details to make us "see" her characters. She understands how to pace her stories so that you want to stay up to read "just one more chapter" - again and again, until the wee hours of the morning. I read Meeting Mr. Wrong several times, and laughed every time. As a matter of fact, I sometimes randomly think of one her stories when I'm sitting around at work or walking somewhere alone, and start laughing to myself. So I have Stephanie to thank for strangers and my coworkers suspecting that I am insane! I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm a man. Why am I reading this book?!, April 3, 2009

I'm a man in my 30's. Married with 2 small kids. I don't have time to read and you know I'm not going to read chick lit.

Until my wife left her copy in the bathroom and, in usual man activity, I spent a good amount of time in there with nothing to do but read. I admit it...I got hooked.

The author reminded me of my wife which made this book extra enjoyable for even me. Envisioning this woman or my wife going through these scenarios made me laugh out loud. My wife got tired of listening to me read bits out loud as she's already read it. Twice. I couldn't help. Big Pimpin' Willie? Pure Gold.

A fun read for anyone male or female. Though I don't know if I'm about to suggest it to my buddies I suggest you leave it in the bathroom. Your husband will enjoy it just as much as you did.

And if there's a 2nd book? I won't even wait for my wife to leave it in the bathroom. I'll just snag it in there myself!

5.0 out of 5 stars hilarious!, February 13, 2009
This review is from: Meeting Mr. Wrong: The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle (Paperback)
You know when you are reading a book and it is sooooo good that you get annoyed when you have to stop reading to change a diaper/feed your children/go to the bathroom etc?

No?

Maybe that's just me.

ANYWAY that is totally how I felt today reading Meeting Mr. Wrong- The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle. It is hilarious. I read it cover to cover grinning the whole time.

The author- Stephanie Snowe- is someone I am familiar with from reading her blog- Jason. For the Love of God. I'm not sure how I first came across her blog but it was ages ago and after reading one post I was hooked and have been reading daily ever since. She is, by far, one of the most enjoyably hilarious bloggers out there. And her book? Equally as enjoyable.

I could absolutely picture all the disastrous dates from Stephanie's descriptions. The story flowed well and was easy to read. It read like I imagine Stephanie would talk... like she was sitting accross the room telling me the stories instead of me reading them on paper.

This really is the funniest book I have read in ages. I would HIGHLY recommend every single one of you go pick up a copy for yourself or your wife or girlfriend or sister or aunt... you WILL love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Life, February 11, 2009
This review is from: Meeting Mr. Wrong: The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle (Paperback)
Reading "Meeting Mr. Wrong" was such a breath of fresh air! Stephanie Snowe brought real life onto paper. No fairy tales, no fantasies... just 100% real life. In the middle of reading the book, my fiance asked me to read it aloud to him because he couldn't understand why I was laughing so much--and I don't just mean little snickers. Trying to relay the stories to him just didn't do them justice. So I read, and we laughed together. It especially meant something to us because we met online and have had our own weird experiences with online dating! Stephanie DEFINITELY takes the cake! Looking forward to her next big hit!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving and Funny, June 19, 2010
This review is from: Meeting Mr. Wrong: The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle (Paperback)
I absolutely adored this book.

Ms. Snowe's work is laugh-out-loud funny; I read nearly the entire thing aloud to my husband because he continued to ask what was so entertaining, and reading it aloud was the only way to do her stories justice. The descriptions of her search for love, or at least a decent date, are very funny, but the greater story beneath them is what really grabs me.

The story is autobiographical, and to read between the lines of humor, and watch the strength of character that Ms. Snowe possesses in abundance shine through was the real gem of the work. On her own, trying to persevere through a devastating divorce and raising twins on her own, with a slim-at-best-income, while retaining the hope of better things out there for her and for her small family reveals the strength of the woman. The humor with which she treats her life is merely icing on the cake.

Though I had some idea of the outcome (based on Ms. Snowe's blog), I found myself reading and really rooting for her, hoping that her hopes were not misplaced, that she might yet find someone out there for her, preferably one without too much baggage or a NASCAR obsession. This book is honest, at times raw and a little painful, but beautiful.

And like its author, absolutely hysterical. Well worth reading again and again.

4.0 out of 5 stars laugh out loud funny, November 11, 2009
This review is from: Meeting Mr. Wrong: The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle (Paperback)
I don't think I know any Southern Belles, but after reading this book I feel like maybe I've met one. It's a delightfully crazy account of the dating game, related by a divorced mother of twins. And it's all the internet's fault. With tongue in cheek, the author paints the most outrageous pictures of potential partners that are all too plausibly real. A girl could indeed get discouraged. There's the deranged parrot, the "Daddy never loved me" maybe-homosexual, the one who just wants to marry someone... And through it all, romantic mother keeps up her outrageous banter, good humor just occasionally slipping to the wrong side of despair, until...

It's advertised as a "true story" and reads like it's got to be true. Plus it's hilarious, touching, and fun and I hope there's a sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Funny!, May 13, 2009
This review is from: Meeting Mr. Wrong: The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle (Paperback)
It's hard to believe this is a non-fiction book, but it is. It's about author Stephanie Snowe's life as she enters the world of online dating and interesting dates she meets along the way.

I like the tone Stephanie's set up. She has a healthy sense of humor about her life, and it shows throughout the book. It's almost unbelievable that one woman can meet so many awful men.

This reminded me of a book I reviewed called I'm with Stupid, but this is written better and the fact that it's true makes it funnier. I can't wait to see more books from Ms. Snowe. I'm interested to see how everything turns out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Humorous read from the Online Dating Scene, May 4, 2009
This review is from: Meeting Mr. Wrong: The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle (Paperback)
All I have to say is "Thank GOD I'm not single." I'm 35 and can't imagine it and Stephanie did it when she was 22 and had newborn twins!! Meeting Mr. Wrong: The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belleis a humorous retelling of her trials of finding love and acceptance by the opposite sex via online dating. Stephanie, and I feel I can call her this because of her willingness to share with us, has moxy. Frankly I don't know if I could have done what she did with 2 young kids at home. I loved the honesty of her online ad and how it just proves that men really don't read or at least read and comprehend.

Stephanie meets some freaks and I mean FREAKS while trying online dating. She finds humor in every situation even when it's bleak. I wonder if she found humor in them when they were happening or if it was upon reflection? Either way it made for good reading.

My favorite story was about the guy at the grocery store who hit on her until he figured out he she had kids. The kicker of it was that she was asking him where the baby formula was in the store! LOL Men really are clueless.

It does end happily for Stephanie. She found her frog among the toads. To keep up with Stephanie on a regular basis you can follow her blog Here

I'd love for Stephanie to write about her trials as a single mom. I'm sure she could bring humor to a very stressful subject. I'd also like to read about her and Jason's courtship. So there you go Stephanie, 2 more books for you to write!
