From Library Journal
Most works on New Age spirituality divorce science from the search for spiritual transcendence, but this collection of essays seeks to incorporate it. It argues, moreover, that humanity is evolving into a new consciousness called homo noetics (from the Greek, noesis, for "thought" or "intelligence") . Drawing from a variety of both occidental and oriental writings (predominantly male), the essays strip New Age spiritualism of any mysticism, yet fail to offer many practical road maps toward enlightenment. The best essays are on firewalking, kundalini yoga, and karate, with a final section providing a new view of Christ. White's book is recommended for collections that have a large and varied interest in both traditional and nontraditional views of religion.
