2 classic albums on one disc,
By Darrin Warren (Osburn, Idaho) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Meets the Crickets/I Remember (Audio CD)
Bobby Vee was a sixteen year old kid when his band "The Shadows" made their first professional appearance at a concert in Moorhead, Minnesota on Feb.3rd 1959. It was the day Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens were killed in the plane crash. These singers, had they lived, would have played in Moorhead. The show went on and local talent was asked to fill in. This was the start of Bobby Vees career. Bobby was heavily influenced by Buddy and sounded alot like him. In 1962 "Meet the Crickets" was released with drummer Jerry Allison, Joe B. Mauldin on bass and a newer member. This album featured a mix of Buddys songs and others. "I remember Buddy Holly" was released in 1963 and featured "Buddys Song" which used titles of Buddys hits to make a song, a fun tune. Even if you have Buddys original recordings you'll want this one as well. I would buy this one!!!

Bobby Vee Meets the Crickets/I Remember Buddy Holly,
By A Customer
This review is from: Meets the Crickets/I Remember (Audio CD)
This CD is a must have for fans of Bobby Vee and Buddy Holly. Although one of the album covers pictured indicates that it is a MONO recording, it is indeed a STEREO CD. The songs and the CD quality are excellent. I tried for years to replace my Bobby Vee Meets the Crickets Album that suffered through teenage parties and portable record players. Thank you BGO and Amazon for making this CD available.

Buddy Holly tribute,

With the release this year of two Buddy Holly tributes, it made sense to me to pick this up. I do have a still sealed vinyl of "Meets the Crickets" but have never heard either of these discs except for having Someday as the flip on the single release of Punish Her. These covers of Holly are pretty true to his versions. To be expected given when these were released (1962-63)and considering he filled in for Holly on the Winter Dance Party tour the night after Holly died. I'm enjoying this and playing it along side of "Listen to Me Buddy Holly" which to me is the better of the two recent releases. [The other is Rave on Buddy Holly.]
"Meets the Crickets" is not a cover album but it is done in Buddy's style and includes 3 covers, counting the Holly cover of Bo Diddley. All but Buddy's Song are covers on "I Remember Buddy Holly".
