This is a terrific find for Billy Taylor fans in particular and late 1950s jazz in general. This set is comprised of two complete albums that showcase Taylor's talents outside of the piano trio format. And he shines.

The first eleven tracks are from Know Your Jazz. This is a concept album that was produced by Creed Taylor (no relation to Billy) that paired Taylor's trio with featured musicians on each track. I will not recount who played on which track here because I did an extensive breakdown in a review on that page. Besides, the music is the key reason to purchase this album and there are sound samples on that album's product page to help you decide if the music touches you.

All of the remaining tracks on this album comprise the album titled My Fair Lady Loves Jazz. That album features Billy's rhythm section driving a big band playing Quincy Jones' arrangements of the Lerner and Loewe masterpiece. The product page for that album also contains sound samples for each track that you should check to get a feel for the music. Frankly, that is one of my favorite Billy Taylor albums, but that only reflects my personal tastes. It's a treat to hear him driving a big band with authority - and still swing.

There is nearly an hour and thirteen minutes of excellent music compiled into this album. If you are a Billy Taylor fan who is mainly familiar with his work in trios or quartets this album will provide a different view of him.
