3.0 out of 5 stars Buy some Superglue!!
Some of the reviewers stated that the blocks do not stay or snap together well. We experienced the same problem. It is very frustrating for my son to spend time following the directions and making some some progress, only to have everything fall apart underneath. Ok. So I purchased this set at the 39.00 price for my very spolied 5 year old. Yes - it does say i think 8 and up but he loves blocks and building and I knew I would be building it - it was not an issue. I mean we saw this last christmas and it was 70!!!!! This toy had to be fun right?? Well after you put it up then yes it is fun. It took me (an adult) 2 and a half hours to put this together - yes i followed all the directions which mind you - come in a book! Yes a book. It had very detailed pictures but like everyone said - the base and what holds it together doesnt really snap in good or hold it properly. I always wonder how these toy makers 1: make the directions up and 2: if they actually try to put their own toys together.

The dragons were the easiest of the bunch to put together.

All and all this playset is fun. You have the bucket that goes up and down (with people or rocks), you have the rocks come pouring out the head or top piece which lights up as well as one of the dragons (my son loved that), the dragons its just such a fun set. Plus its very detailed as well as the dragons. plenty of extra people that you didnt have to purchase seperately.

Worth the time and effort!

My son received this gift for christmas, immediately put it together by himself (8 yrs old) and has played with it ever since.
My only complaint is that the base does not stay together with the blocks you are supposed to used to lock it. Other than that, it has been fun, especially when the dragon's head at the top blows apart and the "ice balls" come flying out. The train is cool throught the mountain and of course all of the 15 figures. He loves the toy and so do his friends who come over. It has been knocked around, stepped on, pieces thrown (much to my dismay) and has held up very well. We even lost a piece and called megabloks and they replaced. Great customer service!

We are loving this set! Very cool dragons, a fun environment for characters to explore and fight in. Extra fun from several moving features - rasing/lowering cauldron, tramcar on sloped tracks, erupting mountain top, opening dragon mouth, flapping dragon wings, firing cannon.

A little challenging to build, but the instructions are fairly clear. Assembly took an adult about 3 relaxed hours.

A few sections come apart after some play but they are pretty easy to put back together. So far no pieces have broken.

Most important, this is a lot of fun to play with. Over the past two days, our set has been getting non-stop play from a 9 year old boy and 6 year old girl. A great toy for two kids to play with together, and the boy says a single child could also spend hours happily playing by himself.

We wouldn't have paid the full retail price for this, but at $35 (Amazon discounted price), I think this is appropriate value.

This is the largest dragons set out right now and in my opinion is the best as well. This set has so many cool features in it first it comes with to dragons a fire and ice dragon both have a light up chest i think thiers about 6 or 7 warriors per army and of course they get weapons and shields. The brave fyrin warriors must transport the crystyl to the summit thier they must plant it and unleash the power of fire first they go to the side mountain and mount the cannon they must get a direct hit on the target to lower the cauldren then they ride the mine cart down and put the crystal inside then they raise it up finally thier at the top when xevoz uses his powers and hides him self in the throneroom protected by the ice door then he starts a avalanch so you lower the handle and small little ice balls fallout smashing the warriors but dev and kyra still get through and plant the crystal and the ice dragon head shake and breaks apart uncovering a glowing eye fire dragon head. Well those are its features overall its very sturdy and quite big please ignore the review that said its not sturdy if you have a brain in your head and build it on a table your going to build this with know problen and it will be nice and sturdy

I bought the Mega Bloks Dragon Mountain set for myself a few months ago and had yet to put it together. The only things that I did put together were the dragons. The instructions for putting it together are well done. They tell you exactly what you need for each step. An improvement would be some views from above to make the building process a little easier. The completed structure is actually two separate structures joined by the bridge for the mine car. As impressive as this set is, it holds together quite well. The key is to build, as with any other Mega Bloks set, on a good hard and level surface. I've moved it a couple times and one of the smaller base sections will fall off, but that's no big deal since there's nothing underneath to hold it in place. It'll take two trips to move it so don't move it all at once. Just make sure you carry the larger structure by holding onto the floor of the second level and take your time while moving it. One other nice improvement would be the addition of a second cannon. I love the idea of mounting the cannon onto the dragon, but it would be nice to have either second cannon mounted on the smaller structure as it shows in the instructions or even better yet, a harpoon lancher. Other than that, I feel that the Dragon Mountain is a great addition to the Mega Bloks Dragons series.

It is very frustrating for my son to spend time following the directions and making some some progress, only to have everything fall apart underneath. We finally just resorted to using superglue to glue the blocks together. Definately not LEGO quality in that department. We also have the Vorgan Ice Fang that we had to glue together also. They both have very good detail and they do like playing with them though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Drag mountain, December 14, 2004

I was as excited as my kids were about this toy. Even as we (I) built it, my two boys (ages 4 & 6) were playing with the dragons. And once it was up, they had a terrific time with it. There are so many fun little features, from the train track to the cannon with spring-loaded projectile to the rock avalanche, plus all the figures with their various weapons, and then the dragons themselves -- What more could you want?

Except maybe... a toy that STAYS TOGETHER for a while, given the two hours of painstaking work you will spend building it. Remember you are buying a "Mega Bloks" (i.e. Lego) toy here. Meaning, it's MEANT to come apart -- which is OK for your typical Lego toy, but as for Dragon Mountain, let's just say it's not fun to find this colossal masterpiece in 1000 pieces, no less within a few short hours!

After recovering from the initial shock and dismay, I had to face the decision as to whether to put it back up again. Recalling the adage "Those who do not learn from history..." I chose not to be a chump and rather to cut my losses and put Dragon Mountain back in the box. Besides, even if it stayed up for a month or two, once I dismantled it I'm not so sure the toy would ever emerge from the box again. The dragons themselves maybe, but not the whole set in all its glory.

So as fun as Dragon Mountain is when it's up, I'm afraid I have to give it the thumbs down. I'd rather have a non-Lego adventure set that just snaps together in a few short moves, with fewer features, than one that I have to worry about how "careful" the kids are with it and dread the thought of having to put it up again... and again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dragon Mountain, July 13, 2006
This review is from: Mega Bloks Fire Ice Dragon Mountain (9858) (Toy)
My 9 year old son loves Dragon Mountain. He wasn't able to assemble it alone; eventhough he's typically very good at assembling most other toys. It took about an hour for him and his dad to assemble it...but he felt it was more than worth the time it took to put it together.

This is a great toy, it has many features, and is fun. The mountain part is durable but the railroad easily breaks though and the other part isn't as durable as the mountain part.I really reccomend this if you are a mega blocks dragons collector or if you are new to the series.
