I have been a huge lego fan for years. I am going to start out by saying that mega bloks are not lego quality. With that said, even the most devout lego enthusiast has to admit that the quality of lego products has diminished greatly in the last few year. I have especially noticed this with the star wars series. This is the first set I have put together of the halo series and I have to say I do not agree with the bashing of quality or the negative comparison to lego. This set came with an alternate instruction sheet and extra parts to give the set some extra stability (mainly with the wing section which has been talked about in a previous review, I don't think they used the amended instruction sheet). I consider these, quality wise, to be just under that of any lego space set. I have several star wars sets and you cant play with those either due to them falling apart. So to finish up, these are awesome for any collector and look very cool when put together. The mini figs are great and have several points of articulation. Another plus is that the retail price of a mega bloks set is half that of a lego set of equal piece value. Barely less quality for half the price. Sounds good to me. Plus...come on...its Halo.

I like this toy because it can move and has a lot of stuff in it. it can open its cockpit and it can move its wings. It was hard to put together, but i stayed up late because I wanted to finish it. So I did. It was very nice packet. if you have this packet, you should look on the shield on his mask bc he was brighter than my other Halo guys, they were not light. I liked this packet, recommend getting this. T, age 6.

Its not bad. Many people say that Mega Bloks aren't very good quality. Well I love them. This set is amazing and if you want a small set here you go.

I have many different Halo sets and have loved putting each and every one of them together. All of them have gone together beautifully (Rocket Hogg, Wolverine, Wraith, ODST Ambush, Ghost, Banshee, Prowler) none had any issues what-so-ever!. This one almost drove me completely insane... until I figured out the major issue with this issue. There were some key bracing pieces missing and one step in the wrong order. Lucky for me I had a few extra pieces laying around and had the opportunity to "fix" the key pieces (Most brutal of which is the Jets around the cockpit). The major issue is that there is nothing holding them together). 2 single peg angle pieces with a thin 1x2 and 1x2 trim piece) these are then covered with 1x2 angled trim pieces (with only 2 pegs to put a total of 2 1x2's into...) once moving to the next step you will literally knock the pieces off over an over (hence my frustration). The addition of a 1x4 between the trim and the angles fixes this problem entirely. The issue with attaching the tail piece to the cockpit is much easier if you put the brace piece on first... so that the two ball and socket pieces do not fight you (I also added additional bracing there as well 2-1x2 thin and 1 4x2 just to make it a bit tougher... Finally the bottom works much better if the two half moon shaped pieces have a couple clear pieces (used a 2x2 and a 4x2 thin) to finish them out (I had clear but you could use the same color as the ship if you had it extra...) I wish they included (as I did not have enough to do this on mine... 8 1x2 thin finish pieces for around the fans (but mine held without them just fine... I have heard others had problems with this as well... Only other complaint is that there is no real "seat" in the cockpit... the figure just kind of hangs out there (and no pilot... and no weapons for the grunts) just a Spartan. I changed him out for a pilot and added some weapons to the Grunts (from other sets) and the whole thing looks really nice (with a spartan on each side and the pilot in the cockpit taking off...) I am using the CQB from Series 3 along with the green one provided. With a little work this one will look really good, it just takes a bit more work to get it there. I am glad I picked this one up and not the "hornet attack" from target (as I do not have any red extra pieces... which could be an issue as I am assuming the same problems exist.

Overall cool looking with some minor design flaws... and some really annoying pieces that were not included but should have been!!!!!!!

A friend bought this for me as a gift, and it was certainly enjoyable to put together. However, I was expecting Legos and this simply isn't quite Lego-quality. While the pieces are Lego-compatible, on their own they are very prone to coming apart and some of the connection points took some effort to snap together without breaking the entire thing. It simply isn't durable, and while it looks pretty cool sitting up on a shelf, it's not meant to be played with.

If you're really into the Halo series specifically, by all means buy this. But if you're just looking for a cool machine to put together, then steer clear of "Mega Bloks" and stick with Legos.

I have been putting legos together for years. I bought this set for my nephew who doesnt like to put them together, "just play with them". I tried several times, starting and taking it apart, and starting again, but the instructions are impossible to follow. The diagram is completely unclear and I finally gave up. I am going to try and return it even though all of the bags have been opened and discarded. I would not recommend this to ANYONE.

I bought the Hornet when in was on sale for ridiculous 5 dollars. Anyway on to the review...
Pros:The machine gun is cool piece that I don't see anywhere else
Relatively stable
Multiple parts that are included can be used for other creations

Cons:The grunts that are included are unarmed(fortunately, I had some extra plasma pistols from other sets)
The shotgun cannot be held properly by the spartan(I cut part of the stock off of it to get it to fit, but his armor also blocked it)
It's very difficult fitting the figures into the cockpit
The large Pad on the bottom seems a bit unnecessary as two pieces underneath the side skids will work better

My solution to popping pieces in many other sets is simple, use a different piece! Likely, there is a deformity in the piece that prevents it from fitting on, piling on more pieces to hold it down will not solve the problem, only create more.

While compatible with Legos, this is not nearly as durable. Nice to look at, but pieces fall off when moved.

Everything was going fine building the thing till I got to the semicircular pieces for the turbofans, they just wouldn't stay on. Those parts appear to be defective. I had to do some redesigning so I could buttress the top off them with some thin 2 slot pieces which appear to have done the trick without hurting the hornets appearance. Overall a frustrating experience.
