Mega Bloks CAT Super Tower Crane

We got this for our five year old son. He LOVES to play with these, using the pictures to guide what he can make & coming up with his own creations as well.

They are made of good quality plastic and hold up to the wrecking ball that he uses sometimes as well.

This toy really allows him to think, be creative and invent new buildings and vehicles to be proud of!

Our family got this crane for Christmas 2008. I am so glad to see it is on the market again.

Others have already said how much fun this "Super Tower Crane" is, so let me provide some technical details that matter to me and my son, rather than just tell you how much fun it is. The parts that come with this crane make it really really interesting and educational. We have lots of LEGO Duplo stuff (thanks to gifts from friends and several other sets) and this is compatible with all of the LEGO Duplo stuff. That's really important because its parts are not like LEGO at all, but fit together with LEGO stuff pretty well.

Everything in this set is pretty well designed except for a few exceptions. Just to be fair, I will say that the crane itself has its limitations. The black plastic cable device on the top (inverted V at top of crane) doesn't stay on very well. It looks OK, but the crane functions fine without it. The elevator on the side (shown with a construction worker standing on it) is connected with a string to the hook. As the child moves the elevator up or down, the crane hook goes up or down. No cranks or loops to deal with. No tangles either. This is a great design, in my opinion. Kids that are not trying to mess it up will not be frustrated with the crane operation. Other cranes (like the actual LEGO Duplo construction site crane) are not as effective or trouble-free in my observations.

The rest of the crane stuff is just as interesting as the crane itself. I think that the rest of the stuff gets at least as much play as the crane. Sometimes, the crane stays in the box, while the rest of the stuff comes out to be used in a construction play session. Hint: save the box, because the large pictures on the outside help show how the many parts and accessories are intended to be used. There are several ways to lift stuff up with the crane. Very nice design and the manufacturing quality is also very good.

The small construction vehicle is pretty cool too. The girders and platforms are all compatible with LEGO Duplo and very fun to use with them for various things in addition to the structures in the pictures.

Match this with the Mega Blox CAT Material Handler truck, and some LEGO Duplo blocks, and you have a lot of work (fun!) ahead of you at the construction site.

This toy should be used indoors. If it were used with dirt, or exposed to the weather or sunshine, it would be damaged. (This might not be obvious if you're not familiar with this line of toys.) For us, this toy and its accessories get stored in the box it came in and a Sterilite Hinged Lid Storage Box in a closet when not in use. Doing this allows us to keep all the special parts for this toy together so that when it comes out, everything is there.

The crane set has a lot of details. If you can afford LEGO Duplo toys, then this is a worthy part of a 3-5 year old boy's deluxe indoor construction site. This toy allow our son to recreate the scenes he sees on some of his construction DVDs. I think this is very educational.

My son loves this crane and all the Megabloks Cat truck sets. He makes some really cool buildings and trucks with these toys. Plus they work with regular duplo legos so he can combine all his Megabloks and Legos together to make some elaborate things. These are great toys for creativity and building.

This was a gift to my grandson from Santa. He specifically asked Santa Claus for this Crane. The excitement on his face on Christmas morning said it all. He loves it and won't stop playing with it. I would recommend to all. He is 4 going on 5.

We got this for our 2 year old son three years ago and he is still playing with it! It is great because it encourages creative play and the pieces are large so it is easy to manipulate. Also, there are numerous configurations to build without having to buy additional sets or pieces.

My son is 3 1/2 and he's really into construction toys (diggers, dump trucks, etc). We had a crane that continously broke (it was in one of those extremely cheap sets at Target). He really wanted a crane that he could play with that wouldn't break every day. I bought this one and he LOVES it! It's very versatile. You can build it different ways and do different things with it. It was inexpensive and sturdy. I would definitely recommend this to another parent whose child is interested in this type of toy. It's very well built. My son has played with it for many, many hours!

I bought this for my grandson's birthday and I can tell right away that it was a hit not just for him but the family. He needed help to set it up but other than that he was having a ball (as well as mom and 2 brothers )and that's all he played with till they left for home. Amazon pretty much delivers as they advertised!

My 4 yr. old son got this for his birthday. He's played with this toy very regularly since the summer. That's rare in this house as they easily get bored with a toy. Even his 6 yr. old sister likes to build and play with this set.
