5.0 out of 5 stars Mega blocks - these are great!
These are great blocks for a small infant-to-toddler child to use to discover how to stack and build with Lego-style blocks. I agree that this set has a few odd pieces -- the train and the two "eyeball" end pieces are kind of just distractions -- but overall this is a great set of toy blocks. I was looking online to get a second set.

I actually think that...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many small pieces...Lego's are better!
There are a lot of small pieces (mostly 1knob piece) in this set and not enough of the big ones (3 or more knobs on top), so it is sort of hard to actually build things with them, unless it is a tower. My son played with this for the first week and no longer. Now it just sits in its pouch in the corner of the playroom. It is nice to have the bag, but watch your child...

I actually think that the ease with which they come apart (noted in another review) is a big plus: a small child doesn't want necessarily something permanent and indestructible, instead they may want something that they can tear down and play with over and over... the easier the better. It's not like the things you build with these blocks just falls apart... it's just that they can be dismantled easily, which is good for little people with small, weak hands. Remember how tightly those Legos you played with as a kid stuck together? How's a one- or a two-year old supposed to do anything with those? I'd say get the Legos when they are older... these are great for now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for little hands, August 2, 2006
This review is from: Mega Bloks (80 pieces) (Toy)
These blocks are great for younger kids learning fine motor control. Our kids (2.5 years and 16 months) love playing with them, and like most block type toys, mostly enjoy building towers and then knocking them down. The only complaint I have with the item is that the bag they come in seems rather small, and has now ripped from our repeated attempts to fit all the blocks back inside. Consider getting another type of container to hold the blocks; a larger bag or tub of some sort would do nicely.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE, April 13, 2005
This review is from: Mega Bloks (80 pieces) (Toy)
What a great toy. My 2 year old has had his block for over a year and still builds things with them. Your child will let his imagination and creative side just shine with these. Very sturdy. Just a classic simple toy your child will play with for a long time.

My 18 month daughter loves these blocks. She carries the bag around the house saying blocks over and over again until I unzip the bag for her to play. She loves building the tower and just making a mass of blocks. We both, my daughter and I, would recommend this set.

My daughters, 3 and 8 have played with this for 2 years everywhere, inside, outside and in the shower. Very versatile, very worth the money. All the kids play with them when the come over. A surefire hit!! We added these to our Mega Blocks Wagon which is a great storage place and makes it so easy to clean up in large areas.

It is nice to have the bag, but watch your child to make sure they don't stick their head in it, like my son tries to do. It will fit over his head down to his shoulders, and he has a big head in the 97th percentile. There are only a few interesting parts...the two eye pieces and the part of a train piece on wheels...How much use is it to use it as a train with one train piece? And most of the blocks can't be used on the train piece, so it is just a piece of plastic on wheels. The house piece that looks liek a roof is pretty useless. These are easier for a 1 year old to put together, but they don't stay together as good as the Lego's quattro blocks.

I would use the money to Legos...they have much more chunkier pieces that can actually be used to be creative and build things other than astraight tower, and they lock together a lot better...meaning the pieces not falling off.

I bought these blocks for my twins' first birthday. While they don't yet build with them, they love playing with the blocks and especially emptying the bag they are kept in. They like watching me build as well. They are a great size for small children, they attach and unattach easily, which is great and the fact that they come with a container is what should really sell you on the product. 80 blocks is a nice number to have.

These blocks are great. I bought these for my 14 month old daughter. I thought I would be building and she would just be handling them and knocking them down. But she was able to build with these. Unlike other "beginning" blocks, these lock together like Legos but are big enough that they aren't a choking hazard. I highly reccomend them.

My son got these blocks 2 years ago and he builds with them every day. He is at the age where we would normally upgrade him to leggos but we have another baby on the way soon so we are just buying another set of these till the next son is old enough for the smaller pieces.

These and Lincoln logs give a mom a much needed break to reconstruct the house every day. Hours upon hours of cheap entertainment.

We highly recommend these.
