5.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.
First off, I'll admit, I was one of the people who bought Tonight the Stars Revolt first. But then I was flipping through CD's at Circuit City and I came across this. I always knew it had existed but it had been so hard for me to find a copy. Well needless to say, this is NOTHING like TTSR. It is a fun blend of Rap/Metal/funk. 3.0 out of 5 stars Powerman 5000 - 'Mega!! Kung Fu Radio' (Dreamworks)
This is basically more or less a remix of 'The Blood Splat Rating System',with the addition of two new tracks.Must admit this CD is quite a diverse project.'Mega!!Kung...' fuses the elements of rap,hip hop, hardcore and metal to somewhat take a life form of it's very own.Not exactly my cup of tea,but it was decent enough to hold my full attention.See how you like it.

I always knew it had existed but it had been so hard for me to find a copy. Well needless to say, this is NOTHING like TTSR. It is a fun blend of Rap/Metal/funk. This could of been the band to ruin Kid Rock's career. But, their new sound is just as welcome. favorite songs are: Organizized, Car Crash, Neckbone, Earth Vs. Me, 20 Miles To Texas, 25 To Hell, and Tokyo Vigilante No 1. Buy this cd if you are a fan of White Zombie or eben the "new" Powerman 5000. This is quite a gem to have.

5.0 out of 5 stars You get the head, the tail, the whole damm thing, June 7, 1999

While I admit that I bought this cd sans hearing it, due to Spider being Rob's bro, I soon forget the connection entirely. PM5K are different from Rob's projects in so many ways, while the influence can still be picked out. This has easily become one of my favourite albums of all time. I like this band so much, I named my fantasy wrestler after them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply flat-out awesome!, December 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mega Kung Fu Radio (Audio CD)
This CD is great! I bought their new album, Tonight The Stars Revolt! and thought it was awesome. Then I bought True Force and this one, and thought they were both awesome. The music is very original, with a direct combination of rap, funk, and hard rock in every song. The best songs are Public Menace, Freak, Human Fly; Organizized; Car Crash; Earth vs. Me; Tokyo Vigilante #1; and Standing 8. There's also a hidden track called File Under Action after Even Superman Shot Himself. Public Menace, Freak, Human Fly is the best song on the album. The lyrics are funny and the chorus is really thrashy. This CD is cool as it addresses various fictious and factual topics such as superheroes, Asia, global chaos, circus freaks, maniacs, car crashes, shark attacks, and other things. I'm actually starting to like PM5K's action rock style more than their disco metal style that they show in the new album. Don't expect this album to be exactly like Tonight The Stars Revolt, but it is still worth the buy!

Hey there, this cd rocks. The band rocks. This will be a great addition to TTSR for you true fans. The CD has it's moments, and I think Mega Kung Fu Radio! is one of the better songs. PM5K is the band and the sound of the new millennium. I got a chance to meet them one time, and they are really great guys. Pick up the disc now, and play it loud! It's awesome. Thanks. Check out my other reviews, and let me know what you think.

5.0 out of 5 stars oh, sweet powerman, where did you go?, November 2, 2006
This review is from: Mega Kung Fu Radio (Audio CD)
Being as I first heard them on this album, first saw them while they were touring on this record, I think it's a great place to start. At the time, I had no idea they had 2 previous independent releases but from what I hear this album is a revamped version of "The Blood Splat Rating System" for major label release. Powerman were definitely at their prime opening for the likes of Ozzfest 97, Primus and Limp Bizkit before taking over headlining duties once "Tonight The Stars Revolt!" was released. If you were to start listening to this band, I would think the time has passed since most of their career gave way to commercial pressure. They were shooting for radio fame instead of continuing this style. I guess the genre was kind of exhausted and Powerman probably needed the "Transform"ation sound-wise. Enjoy the early years, they were great.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Beginning, May 20, 2006
This review is from: Mega Kung Fu Radio (Audio CD)
I'm sure this album will come as a shock to fans of the Powerman 5000 who released Anyone for Doomsday and Tonight the Stars Revolt, but this album is a pretty good funk/rap metal album. I think many of these songs appeared in better forms on earlier releases, but this is still a good album, and worth looking into as long as you aren't expecting post-industrial rock with a space aesthetic.

This aesthetics of this album are totally different from the ones that would make them famous. Not only is there only one guitarist on this album, but there are also two percussionists, who would go on to become 2/3 of the Blue Man Group. Because of this, there's a lot more percussion with bongos, shakers, and various other instruments besides the drum set. The bass lines are also the focus of many songs, whereas they aren't even memorable on many of TtSR's songs. Spider's vocals are also different from what you might expect, so it might as well be a different band.

The best songs here are Organizized, Standing 8, and Neckbone, all of which feature strong bass lines and percussion. Some others that I like a lot are 20 Miles to Texas, 20 Miles to Hell, Tokyo Vigilante, and Even Superman Shot Himself. The rest ranges from good to forgettable, but none of the songs are really bad.

If you like Incubus, Rage Against the Machine, and other bands that mix funk with hard rock, then I think you'll like this. It's not as good as either of those groups, but it is a fun album, which I still play from time to time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, April 28, 2000

This review is from: Mega Kung Fu Radio (Audio CD)
Ive been a PM5K for around 3 years now, after hearing them on the Ozzfest live CD released in 97. Finding this album was a bitch but I finally got it early last year. It only occured to be now to write a review after buying the new album recently and being slightly underwhelmed. I thought "Where's the originality? Where's the stuff that made them so cool before gone?"

Then, last night, I saw them live playing with Pantera.

Oh my God. I was so blown away, I appreciate the new album a lot more now, but by no means as much as I love this album. The funk and drive of "Neckbone", "Tokyo Vigilante #1" and "Car Crash" are all amazing. I think I spent all of today chanting "Tokyo! Tokyo! " and annoying anyone around me.

So if you became a fan as soon as TTSR came out, then at least check this out to see what a band in their prime sound(ed) like.
