The most essential of the 6 Mega Man titles on the NES, June 14, 2001
This review is from: Mega Man 2 (Video Game)
Mega Man II, with huge levels (for the NES), and great graphics (again, for the NES), would establish Mega Man (Rock Man in Japan), as a commercially viable video game character who would later become the most prolific character in terms of video game releases (and by this, I mean full fledged releases, not cameos, in which Mario takes the cake). But his success is owed to this pheonomenal game. The first, although somewhat successful, did not have the commercial impact as this did. Repeating the formula of the first Mega Man with giving you multiple stages and you chosing which one you want to tackle first and adding two bosses and dropping the score you get when beating the bosses, Capcom came up with 8 great bosses and a tremendous game. A large part of the fun is figuring out the order in which to beat the bosses. This also allows you to up the difficulty level if you want an extra challenge, as each of the boss's weapons work against another specific boss. The most difficult, as I remember, was Flash Man's stage. Those beams got me all the time. But don't worry, you can clear all eight stages. And once you do, going to Dr. Wiley's castle and attempting to figure out all the complexities only add to it. Top of the line graphics, wonderful music, amazing game play, what more could you want? This has all the markings of a bona-fide classic.

As good as the first., April 5, 2005

This review is from: Mega Man 2 (Video Game)
Mega Man2 game is as good as the first. There seem to be much more levels and bosses this time around. The sound is basically the same as the 1st one. The plot in Mega Man 2 is extremely simple: Dr. Whily wants revenge.
The main problems in this game are the same as before. The traps are still annoying. The plot is also extremely simple.
Overall, this is a very good game that is not much different from its predecessor.

I'm an avid collector of retro games, and this one will always have a place in my collection. The gameplay is awesome, the bosses creative, and the level design is incredible. Not that this game is easy. Often I found the hardest part was getting to the boss, and fighting Dr. Wily is no easy task. But what great game isn't without some degree of challenge? This game uses a password system so you can always pick up where you left off, and uses two difficulty levels so you can pick how hard you want to make it on yourself. I found switching from Normal to Hard added a lot to the challenge of the game and made it almost as fun playing through for the second time. You get lots of cool weapons and gadgets throughout the game and it is just a blast to play through. The stages at the end get a little tricky as do some of the later boss battles, but it's well worth it to play through this game and experience all Mega Man 2 has to offer! Stop reading this review and get this game right now. You won't be disappointed!
