The arcade blasting has been sprinkled with a little RPG drama. Deep in the game, there are huge areas to explore, items to discover, and people with whom to engage in somewhat childlike conversation. There's also a ton of handy-dandy weapons and moves to use against the game's bigger bosses.
Sadly, the graphics are way too PlayStation-like. The borderline-primitive level and character designs are extremely bland, and display little attempt to make use of the N64's graphics power. Also, there's an occasional problem with operating the camera to track enemies.
Mega Man 64's somewhat interesting, if goofy, story line mitigates the game's lackluster look, but it won't satisfy gamers who are looking for deep plots or engaging characters. No, it's not the same Mega Man that many gamers know and love; but, for video game newbies and casual game fans, that's not such a bad thing. --Mark Brooks

Good game!,

First of all, this is a alternate plot to the original Mega Man games. Now Wily is just a boat store owner, and Roll takes the pace of Dr. Light as your weapon creater. This game is pretty easy if you know the ultimate move to defeat the bosses, circle them! It doesn't always work, but oh well. This game isn't really better than the Playstation version. The rumble feature only works when you get hit, and the "anolog" feature means they just made the joystick work. I still use the D-Pad since that is what the controls were originally made for. They also took out the way to become invincible, that PVC vest. The game is still pretty easy, though. The dumb thing is you have to beat the game in Hard mode to get Easy mode. All in all, the game is pretty good, but if you have a Playstation, I would get the Mega Man Legends.

A couple of pros, a couple of cons...,

Megaman, a name that brings back sweet memories. I loved the x series and in all games I have played bearing his title I have enjoyed. Megaman 64 fufills some expectations and leaves others out.I expected a game that was like the others, battle enemies for their powers, face various foes and challenges and then battle it out with Sigma, Dr.Wily or a new nemesis. Megaman 64 incorparates the foes and challenges but the old nemesis's like Dr. Wily and Sigma are gone. Now a new enemy appears. The Bonne family. You don't acquire special abilities from defeating your oponents but rather find things and give them to Roll to build special parts for you. The storyline also changed. Which technically is not a bad thing... Dr. Light is gone and now Megaman was abanonded as a child instead of being found in a capsule underground. MegaMan has a lot of origins doesn't he? :-) Zero is not present or any other people you knew in the X series or the original series except Roll. The additio of the Bonne family helps the game and storyline but as the editorial review states "The dialouges seem designed for 4-year olds" or at least very young gamers. Gameplay is not THE BEST in the world but is easy to get used too and even fun after while (I'm talking about controls). The gameplay is kind of fast but the missions in the game are great and pose a very big challenge. So that is definetly a big pro for the game. Lack of multiplayer was a hard fact to deal with. Banjo-tooie got a multiplayer, other games got a multiplayer but Megaman was sadly left out of the bunch. Imagine a great 4-player battle with Megaman, and the cast from the game? Ahhh.... would have been great... In summary, this game is not the best and not the worst. It's a fun game. It earns 5 stars for being fun, challenging and a simply great game. Hey, every game has a bad side, but don't let that stop you from getting the great, addictive game. A definite buy for anyone. The blue is back, with quite a stack, of challenges along the way, and the mission to save the day. It's gotta be Megaman 64! `:-) Owner and gamer, Andrew H. King

The first and best Mega Man game for Nintendo 64,
By Craig Juan (USA) - See all my reviews

Mega Man 64 is a fully enhanced port of the original PlayStation hit, Mega Man Legends. The game still remains the same thing as its PSX counterpart. But unlike the it's PSX predecessor, Mega Man 64 has better and smoother graphics, tight controls, and non-stop 3D action. Mega Man 64 definently showed that it can improve over it's PSX cousin with the new enhancements, mostly thanks to the power of the Nintendo 64. Since there was no rumble feature on the PSX version, there is a rumble feature in this version. Everything about the game is excellent. The only thing that bothers me is the occasional framerate errors and glitches, weak voice acting, and flat looking buildings, floors, and walls. Even if this game came in the right place at the wrong time, Mega Man 64 is still worth the purchase to those who never played the PSX version. If you played the game already, you would easily beat the game without breaking a sweat and quickly return it to the store. If you haven't played the game, you'll enjoy playing this game hundreds and hundreds of times. I LOVE this game, and I suggest that all Mega Man fans who don't own a PlayStation should get this game. Now the two rival systems, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation, are now even. They both got the same title. Still, it should've came out 4 years ago. Even if this is just a port of a 4 year old PlayStation game, you'll still enjoy it anyway. And believe me, this game is not mimicing the PlayStation version. Improving the graphics and the gameplay is not mimicing. Anyway, if you wanted to play a better game for the Nintendo 64 with more action, stunning 3D graphics, and tight gameplay, Mega Man 64 is your game !
