4.0 out of 5 stars Underrated classic., October 18, 2003
This review is from: Mega Man (Game Cartridge)
With the Mega Man games achieving high status on the NES, Capcom decided to take advantage of the hand held department and released the very first portable Mega Man game in 1991. Before we go into the GOOD and BAD of this game, let me tell you that this game was the very first Mega Man game I ever completed. So in that respect, this game helped me get into the Mega Man franchise, even though I had played the first two prior to this game (again, this one I beat before them.). Read on or die:

THE GOOD
The graphics and animation transfer well from the NES counterpart and we get to fight four bosses from the first game. After you defeat them, you fight four from Mega Man 2 (this cycle continues and ends at Mega Man IV.). The music was also good, some of them new including the Wily stages. It's also interesting to see a change on the bosses; examples: Cut Man's nastier and Elec Man is tamer, Fire Man's weapon is good against Quick Man, and so forth. And may I also state that the game is reasonably difficult... not "kick you in the [...] and make you love it" difficult like the first Mega Man for NES, but certainly not an easy venture. Capcom also created an extra boss specifically for this game: Enker. He's one of my FAVORITE robotmasters ever created. His weapon may seem useless, but... well, you'll figure it out. One last thing: YOU'LL LOVE THE ENDING.

THE BAD
There are two things I didn't like about the game. I wish it had more plot involved, and that isn't too much of a gripe, but Mega Man 2 (NES) basically had the same type and had more storyline involved (Dr. Wily wants to exact revenge upon Mega Man, hence the game's subtitle). Secondly, the game is actually not that hard, but it's made even more difficult because of the game boy's tiny screen, which makes him have a lower lifebar and smaller surroundings.

OVERALL
Aside from a couple bads, this is an enjoyable Mega Man adventure. I grew up with this game, so that might be why I like it so much. Nevertheless, nostalgia aside, it's certainly not a bad game. Mega Man fans, give this one a shot. In any event, hopefully this can be a good introduction into this phenomenal and legendary video game series as it was for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game...., November 11, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mega Man (Game Cartridge)
I just bought this game a few days ago from a store. I started to get interested in Mega Man games so i thought why not give it a shot. I bought the original instead of the 2nd mega man game which was a bit more $$$. I have to say it is a great game. I got the hang of it after a few tries. I have to say this is a GREAT mega man game to start of with.

4.0 out of 5 stars My first introduction to Mega Man, February 9, 2003
This review is from: Mega Man (Game Cartridge)
This was the first Mega Man game I ever got. The difficulty was hard, but not nearly as impossible as some other reviewer mentioned. The shots do tend to be slower than on its NES counterpart, but it's amazing how well it's transferred to the Game Boy's small screen. Very fun and very challenging, with an excellent ending as well! Heartily recommended to Mega Man fans.
