5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Wonderful!, April 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mega Man Megamix, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the thickness of this volume. I thought it'd be a thin little manga, but it was pretty thick! I've been a big fan of the Mega Man series for a long time. Japan always got these fantastic stories of Mega Man that really helped create a universe all on their own.

Now we finally can read this manga artists' interpretation of the legendary video game character created in 1987. This manga is his vision/interpretation of what the Mega Man games released on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) would be like in story format.

After finishing the manga, I have to say I was really satisfied! I can't wait for the next volume and any Mega Man fan will be sure to love this. Udon Entertainment is doing a great job and service for Mega Man fans by bringing various Mega Man products/books to the US.

After a long wait I can finally read these great Manga instead of just looking at the very nice artwork.
The little color "poster" inside the cover was a nice surprise, as were the sketches and character bio's and creator interview in the back of the book.

I'd reccomend it to all Mega Man fans out there.

I'm very glad Udon decided to publish these translated Manga, and I'm looking forward to buying the following parts as soon as they are available.

This is a great read! If your a fan of the blue bomber then you won't be disappointed when you read this series. It follows the original series and goes in chronological order from the very first game onward. This book makes each of the master robots along with Megaman himself look the best they can be. I would highly recommended and encourage those who are a fan of Megaman to give this graphic novel series a try!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story centering around the MegaMan universe!, December 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mega Man Megamix, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I've never read manga before in my life, but I started reading this and the Gigamix series because I'm a big fan of Megaman. I must say, I am hooked! It's entertaining, funny, and it's a joy to see the Blue Bomber in an action-packed story such as this.

In this volume, the stories deal with the birth of MegaMan, his confrontation with the robot master villains from the first 3 MegaMan games, and a dramatic story that puts more depth into the character Yellow Devil (from the first MegaMan game). We see how MegaMan went from being the regular robot Rock to the combat warrior MegaMan, and I thought it was very interesting to see MegaMan befriend several of the robot master villains from the games -- giving it a unique twist to its story. The end of the volume has bonus content: character profiles and an interview with Keiji Inafune, the creator of Megaman.

I'm so glad that Udon has been transcribing a lot of their Megaman stuff for the Western world. They have more stuff coming on the way, and I'm looking forward to checking it out!

The entire Megamix series is awesome. I highly recommend checking it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars a taste of nostalgia - Manga of Megaman/Rockman's origins, January 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mega Man Megamix, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I have always wanted to read the Rockman manga over the years. But they were never localised into English but I have seen them in Chinese in Hong Kong (localised by Taiwanese publishers). Megamix puts the story behind the 8 bit games fans remember fondly from their childhoods and although the original Megaman series were more aimed to be "child-friendly" (and the Megaman X series as darker and more sinister) the author blends a a good mix of action and comedy into the work.

The first volume covers both Megaman games 1 and 2. That is to say the enemies encountered are covered in these games. Th interactions between the boss robots & Megaman build on the game's roots on their background as both robots with souls and tools created for humans.

It is a series I can see being a light read that can lead into the darker evolution of the Megaman X series if the manga-ka/author continues the work into that series. Similar to the way "Dragonball" became a more sci-fi/action oriented story when the characters grew up and the series became "Dragonball Z".

the only gripe I have with Volume 1 is that some fights seem rushed/unshown. The bosses that we fans may have struggled for hours to beat after finally passing the difficult platforming levels, are shown beaten too easily by Megaman. But that author didn't show these fights and the strategies Megaman himself used to beat them - with his own MegaBuster or with the weapons from the previous bosses. What is shown is the victorious aftermath with the boss on the ground neutralised. It would have been nice to see some bosses cringe at their own comrade's special ability by being frozen to the ground/melting away/slowing to a shudder.... SOMETHING!

But I guess that's a small thing for I really enjoyed this volume overall and will continue to purchase further parts of the series.

For now, enjoy this excellent work localised by Udon (who have many great works on games by CAPCOM) and authored originally by Hitoshi Ariga. Megaman fans won't be disappointed. Lets hope for more of these!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Mega Man Fans Dream Come True, December 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mega Man Megamix, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
For anyone who grew up in the 80's and 90's and spent days in front of a TV screen with the blue bomber running along blocky levels leaping from platform to platform and firing out three buster shots at a time, this book is a dream come true. Every game has a story, and the Mega Man classic series has always had a more untouched one in the background, and Hitoshi Ariga set out to chronicle it in an adult and contemporary way. The story follows Mega Man through his trials against six of his own brothers and fellow Light robots to stop a city from being obliterated and then segues seemlessly into the story of Mega Man 2 and beyond, bringing to life the 8bit characters that we struggled against as kids and still go back to struggle against now, using only our busters and our pattern recognition. I can't recommend this series enough, it's highly overlooked in the fan community here in the States since it's never been available except for poor scanslations online, so now is the time to pick it up. Trust me, it will change the way you think of the classic series in a big way, and that's not a bad thing.

I've been a MM fan for a long time - and just the original, not Megaman Zero or anything - and when I heard of a Megaman manga, I was intrigued. I was NOT disappointed. The illustrations are clean and nice, and I especially like Dr. Wily's clothing design, including the cool skeleton-print tie.

Each chapter in this book basically follows the NES Megaman games, so you will see a lot of familiar faces. This manga also comes with character bios and profiles in the back, and is a nicely-sized manga - I actually didn't think it would be so big when I ordered it - LOTS of pages and well worth my money.

I've been a HUGE Megaman fan since I was a little kid. I've played most the games read most fan-fictions I could get my hands on and I've watched the tv series a couple times threw. I have to say everything this man did in this graphic novel is how I invisioned the Megaman universe. The cartoons always portrayed a happy young infantile look to the series until the later MegamanX series came out. Now thats how the future really is even in the Megaman universe before everything went bad. Dr. Wily contstantly on the rise for world domination and yet everything seems... honky dory! What-the-heck.

In the end I give this 10 out of 5 for everything. From dialogue to creative style of art. My little brother and I both enjoyed it we just wish it was a longer read. Why my friend was naping on my bed I picked this book up for the first time since it came in from Amazon and took it for a spin. I finished it with in a half hour because it's so deep. It sucks you in and you read faster and faster and faster! You blaze threw the images as if it was a motion picture you can see everyone moving around in front of you and even hear their voices!

Then again I could just be crazy... My point is this is a terrific novel and a most read for all Megaman fans! The good price and good reviews say a must buy... So BUY!

I don't know why they have all the other comics and manga out as long as they had, and yet Megaman been around for like 3 millions. Good read, love the art style, wish it was in color like everything else.
