I should start off by saying that I .... have been playing Mega Man games since they first came out in the USA. But over the years I kind of skipped over the X series, and the Battle Network series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not an RPG, just a headache
The title list itself as an RPG which is hardly the case, more like an open spaced platformer. I find my biggest headache that some of the bosses are just ridiculously OP'd so you have to grind to get enough hp just to survive especially when some are just ridiculous.

For example Gutsman walks over and punches me in the face, I take 4 hits from him and I'm...

5.0 out of 5 stars Old skool fun, totally awesome!, July 16, 2003
This review is from: Mega Man Network Transmission (Video Game)
I should start off by saying that I .... have been playing Mega Man games since they first came out in the USA. But over the years I kind of skipped over the X series, and the Battle Network series.

For a while I had planned on getting this title, but really had to wrestle over my decision for a week or so. ...

Let me say, I shouldn't have worried -- THIS GAME RULES! More fun than most other games these days. The graphics are gorgeous 2.5d -- you are limited to moving in 2 dimensions, but the graphics are pretty much 3d (as well as cel-shaded -- but the mix really works well). A lot like the style of Super Smash Brothers Melee. Lots of really nice lighting effects, backgrounds, etc.

But what this game is really about is the action! It's not really too tough, but it's still challenging. Not mind-numbingly impossible by any means, but not a total cynch, either. It's the kind of game that sucks you in, and because you are having so much fun you don't notice how much time is passing. This is a good thing! Yes, you may have to go through levels a number of times to get them right -- who cares? That's what it's all about!

At first I found the chip system a little bit confusing, but now that I understand it, I really like it a lot -- tons of special weapons and flexibility in your approach to taking on the bad guys. The control scheme is very easy to learn, so you will be able to jump right in and start blasting viruses and navis gone wild.

GET THIS GAME -- don't question your decision, just get it, and you will be happy. Activates that little dopamine generator in your brain that not many games these days manage. Thank you, Capcom! And might I add, what a very reasonable price for a brand new title...Here, here!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not As Difficult As Everyone Says, April 27, 2004
By
This review is from: Mega Man Network Transmission (Video Game)
Before I begin this review, I would like to state that anyone who says that this game is too hard, did not take the time to play past the first two boss fights. If they did, then they would realize that the game actually gets easier as you play it and get more power ups and battle chips. With that said, this game is very good. It takes place in-between the first and second Battle Network games. It continues right where the first game left off, when Mega Man had just defeated the Life Virus and saved the Internet. Months later, a new threat, called the Zero Virus has invaded the net and Lan and Mega Man have to stop it and make the net safe once again. Gameplay wise, this plays less like the Battle Network games and more like the classic Mega Man's. It's done in the old side-scrolling style like the previous installments, but also includes some features from Battle Network. You keep twenty battle chips in your chip folder and can use up to five at a time. These include swords, bombs, etc. You also collect power ups for your buster and subchips that do things like heal your character and unlock certain cubes in which you collect items from. You've probably heard that this game is incredibly difficult because of the first boss, Fireman. This is not true as long as you know what to do. For example, Fireman will use an attack where he uses a flamethrower that's a little hard to dodge. What you have to do is simply slide under this and use a strong battle chip like aquasword against him. The game progressively gets easier as you play it instead of harder, due to the power ups you collect later on. Your character is pretty weak without these, but if you take the time, Mega will eventually be stronger, able to shoot faster, and have the ability to charge shot just like the classic Mega Man's. Overall, Fans of the classic Mega Man games or the Battle Network games should at give this game a look. I give it a 4 out of 5 because I thought the game could have been a little longer, but otherwise, it definately qualifies for at least a rental. Check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars megaman is still megaman, November 3, 2003

I seen all the reviews that came in for this game.
first of all the people that write a bad review for this game are complete morons.
I have this game and i found it very fun and challenging. this is the first game that i got on the gamecube that is. It is the same old megaman but added features. Like chips that help u defeat bosses and enemies. Also yeah your buster is weak but u find power ups that make it stronger. so in reality it is a mixture of megaman and megaman x but it has old megaman bosses with a new look. the people that gives this a bad review don't have any stragety and that is what it takes to beat the bosses.
I am a hardcore megaman fan,but i never tried the battle network series untill now and i'm impressed. i give it 5 stars because i liked everything about the game and i hope they make sequel to it. The graphics are awsome and the people that don't, don't know what they are talking about. i got my moneys worth out of this game. also the people that don't like this game and say they are megaman fans, they aren't. Like my title it is megaman with a new twist.

awesome graphics but teeth clenchingly hard, it takes forever to beat the first level, the battlechip system is just not made for side-scrollers! the insane level of difficulty makes it a challenge for experts even! but it's still fun, I recommend renting it, (Ya gotta be a fan of Megaman or you'll hate it!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Commendation to Capcom, November 7, 2003
This review is from: Mega Man Network Transmission (Video Game)
Capcom has issued many of the jump and blast Mega Man games we've all come to know and love. Though it's usually more of the same, the games are unique themselves and always offer different things using the same gameplay style. This game (unlike a lot of people) lived up to my expectations and more. Not only does it bring back the original gameplay style and feel, but it also incorporates 3D side-scrolling environments and cel-shaded characters as well as other objects in a GCN installment of the Battle Network series. What makes it so different from the "norm" of Mega Man is the incorporation of chip usage. This gives Mega Man so many more techniques and power at his disposal. It also enables more flexibility for the stages. The only setback is like Mega Man Zero, it can be pretty frustrating unless you are a player with pinache. But elite status and finesse all come with practice! To conclude, I want to point out that this game wouldn't be very good for smaller kids, since it does get complicated and difficult periodically.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great game, huh. (Ha ha Higsby), August 30, 2003
This review is from: Mega Man Network Transmission (Video Game)
I have played and beaten all three Battle Networks. They were great with an awsome, easy to pick up battle system, chips, a great story and full customization of MegaMan. Transmission is different though. Fans of the original sidescrollin' MegaMan will be able to relate to the left to right get-to-the-end-of-the-screen kind of thing. While Battle Network fans will lap up the story, characters etc. To be a true fan of this game you must love sidescrolling and RPg's. I LOVE battle network because it has all the great aspects of an RPG. Transmission is just strange. I miss controlling Lan and have to read sub-titles from Japanise dialog. Overall I liked this game and if it is hard then big whoop. Thats the point of a video game dummy.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mega Man Network Transmission (Video Game)
This game is rocks. You may battle agaist gutsman, flameman, Bass, Ice man, elec man and about everyone else from the tv shows. It is also an adventure game to and you jump Like the way in the games Megaman 1-3 and Megaman v.s. Samus Aran( Yes People it is a real game just find it on the web I don't like when people send me e-mails telling me there isn't I have it and it is fun but also lame). You get dozen of chips has well. Even add power-ups to megaman and give him armor that reduces some attacks by half which ever your wearing. The grafhics too are awsome but it is in japenese. Well I'm out of here see ya.
