Product Description

From the Manufacturer

In Mega Man X Command Mission, Mega Man must infiltrate Giga City Island to thwart the evil plans of the Rebellion Army who have initiated a riot. By choosing from a selection of seven different playable characters, gamers construct a three-member attack force using Mega Man, Zero, Axl, or characters new to the Mega Man universe, to help bring peace to the region once and for all. It is up to gamers to create a dream team of Mega Man’s allies and reploid robot friends to stop the destructive battle that has begun to wage itself on Giga City Island.

Mega Man X Command Mission will have new and exciting features that make this RPG play like a true action game; including a revolutionary "Cross Order System" that allows flawless execution of special and finishing attack moves on enemies. There are plenty of ways to do battle: 1) Party Hookup where a character’s main and sub-weapon can be used simultaneously; 2) Action Trigger, which allows players to control their characters in real time, and 3) Hyper Mode which kicks into gear when the action starts to get a little too close for comfort. Pull off linked main and sub-weapon attacks to perform a super-powerful Final Strike finishing move. Additionally, by using a super energy metal called Force Metal, players can upgrade weapons, abilities, and attack moves, greatly improving their character’s capabilities.

Mega Man X Command Mission includes the following features:

  • The first RPG in the Mega Man universe Mega Man X Command Mission features role playing game (RPG) style combat and action elements to create a unique blue bomber experience.
  • An all-star cast Mega Man will not be alone in his fight. Joining him will be Axl and Zero, as well as a cast of four characters new to the Mega Man Universe.
  • New heroes join the Mega Man series, each with their own unique ability or weapon:
    Cinnamon has healing abilities
    Marino specializes in ninja tactics
    Masimo wields an ax
    Spider carries playing cards
  • Cross Order System: This new system interface displays the turn order and health. With a little luck, gamers can steal the enemy’s energy and finish them off with a deadly final strike attack combo.
  • Force Metal System: One of the most important aspects of this game is developing your characters. By using a super energy metal called Force Metal, you can upgrade your weapons, abilities, and attack moves, greatly improving your character’s capabilities.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome game for RPG fans, October 1, 2004
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mega Man X Command Mission (Video Game)
I picked this game up for 40$ and I have to say it is money well spent. Few games these days are good enough to make me feel that my money was put to good use.

While MMXCM is a bit basic as far as exploration and storyline goes, it really shines in the fun department. The graphics fit the game perfectly and the voice acting, while not the greatest, is adequate. (Mega Man fans, this time our blue bomber doesn't sound like a little girl!) Most of the MMX games are hurt by less than stellar voice acting :).

Combat is fun, in that you get weapon energy before each battle. You can choose to use it, or let it build up for stronger attacks. Then, you can even use Final Strikes, which means all 3 of your fighting characters jump in at once to deal out major damage. And each character has a special transform move that makes them twice as tough. Lots of strategy falls into the battles on this game, especially the boss battles.

There is a sort of mini game that really gets you hooked once you pick up the basics. During the game, you find Deployment Robots. You can send these out to stages you have already visited to pick up secret treasures. They go up levels depending on if you placed them properly and used good strategies. Very fun.

Speaking of Final Fantasy, I think this game easily blows away FF8, FFX, and FFX-2.

The combat system is fun and doesn't really get old, especially when you get all the characters and are able to switch them in and out of battle at will. And unlike every other RPG I have ever played, every character is fun and useful to use. In all the Final Fantasy games, there have been a few characters who I tried to keep swept under the rug at all costs. Not so in this game.

I would have given the game an overall score of 5 if exploration had been a little better. Other than that, this is a great game, ESPECIALLY for Mega Man fans.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but far from great..., May 12, 2005

I must admit that when I first heard that Capcom was cooking up a Mega Man X RPG, I was very interested. Considering the state of his side-scrolling adventures in the past few years, and even if Mega Man X8 was pretty decent, that game alone isn't enough to bring the series back from the dead.

Originally I had planned to buy this game soon after it came out, but I decided to wait until a price drop due to the fact my friend purchased it before I did and informed me that the game could be completed in a mere 25-30 hours. Call me cheap, call me spoiled from Square-Enix titles, but when I put down 40-50 dollars for a RPG, I usually expect 60+ hours of gameplay at least.

The small gameplay time factor aside, Mega Man X Command Mission is a pretty faithful rendition of X and and crew in a PRG world. The game isn't gonna knock your socks off, or win any awards, but Capcom could have done a lot worse than they did (as if they haven't proven that with the X series).

On the negative side, the game does have it's downs. The battle system is decent, but mainly borrows bits and pieces from almost anykind of RPG battle system you can think of. The battle system's only spark of originally it the Final Strike ability, which I must admit is cool destroying an enemy with a massive volley of attacks, like the first 50 times you do it. After that, it just gets annoying having to mash all the buttons on the controller (couldn't have they put an auto mode in there?). Also, some of the Action Triggers get quite old after doing them over and over, but not to the point of Legend of Dragoon's Addition System (which ranks as my all-time crap of a battle system).

The dungeon layout has to be game's weakest overall aspect, most of which just consist of rooms, hallways, rooms, oh, what's this, ah, another hallway! (oh, and your occansional lift or elevator). They really leave something to be desired, especially when compared to the dungeon designs and layouts in Mega Man Legends 2, which where great (speaking of which, are they ever gonna make another one of those?)

The game's story is another stumbling block. It's not horrible, it is just really disposable. All the twists in the plot are pretty much no brainers, does Capcom think that gamers have the attention span of a goldfish or something? To add to the overly simplified storyline, Capcom pulls a 180 on you buy trying to introduce this whole "are the bad guys really that bad for having a different view or prospective of the world" or "who are you to judge us and our actions" thing. Seriously, what's so wrong with the whole: there's the enemy, their bad, shoot them thing.

Overall, If you like Mega Man and RPG's this is a no-brainer of a purpose. If you like RPG's and don't like Mega Man, you can live without playing this (unless you've decemated every other RPG on the market).

4.0 out of 5 stars The X series starts to redeem itself., October 20, 2004

Everything you really need to know about this game is in T. Blair's excellent review. I just want to add that the RPG format is a welcome change of pace to the Megaman X series. This game provides an opportunity to delve deeper into the real issues of the story. It's the best innovation for the storyline since they first included brief conversations before each boss fight in Megaman X4.

Although you can enjoy this game without having played previous Megaman X games, it does help. Definitely pick up X4 if you can.

The X series has always really been about what the place of an intelligent robot is in human society. The issue of Reploid independence seems far from over. As is often shown in the X games, the "good guys" are not always 100% right and the "bad guys" aren't always all bad. This makes the story more interesting and I look forward to seeing it expounded upon much more in the future; but this game is a good start.

Command Mission is a fun, mildly challenging yet engaging RPG. It's also the best Megaman anything in several years. If you like this, try Custom Robo.
