Editorial Reviews

Hip hop legend Cormega presents his first album since 2009's Born And Raised. Mega Philosophy is exactly what it says in the title a summing up of 'Mega's point of view. With tracks that feature Raekwon, Chantelle Nandi, Maya Azucena, and other heavyweights, Mega Philosophy brings it all together.

Queens rapper Cormega seemed to have it all. Despite a co-sign from Nas, a recording contract from Def Jam and being an original member of supergroup The Firm, it looked like things were finally going his way. However, a series of fallouts plagued the rapper's career. First he fell out with manager Steve Stoute over being replaced at the last minute in The Firm. His disagreements with Stoute led to his falling out with Nas- as Stoute was also Nas' manager at the time. Lastly, Def Jam shelved what was supposed to be his debut album "The Testament"- and making matters worse, they blocked him from recording for nearly five years. After 2000 rolled around, he was let out of his contract with Def Jam and decided to go the independent route. What was supposed to be the end for him actually turned out to be the beginning. As fate would have it, going indie would be the best thing to happen to him- as he would release some of his best work on the underground circuit. After trading barbs with his former friend Nas, he established his own imprint Legal Hustle Records to release his 2001 formal debut "The Realness". He then followed it up with the sophomore set "The True Meaning" followed by the 2004 compilation album "Legal Hustle". The following year, he ended his feud with Nas and released the shelved album he recorded for Def Jam "The Testament".

After releasing his next recording "Born And Raised" in 2009, Cormega decided to take a break- one that would last nearly five years. When he did emerge in 2014, he did so with a new album "Mega Philosophy". The entire album was produced by Large Professor- recalling a fairly recent period where artists chose one producer for an entire album (See: Rah Digga's "Classic" and most of Murs and Buckshot's albums with 9th Wonder).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album From Cormega and Large Professor August 18, 2014
Format:Audio CD
Great album. Cormega sounds great over these Large Professor beats. Every song is good and filled with gems from Cormega. It has been a while since I've heard Cormega and I'm glad that he sounds better than ever.

The album is short at 11 tracks and clocking in at a little over 30 minutes, but there is no filler. Just great hip hop. All of the guests sounded great as well. Definitely one of the best of the year so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait, the Philosophy is real August 14, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Great album by Mega. I really enjoyed hearing his growth on this album. He still has his street edge, but you can hear the maturity in his message. I can relate to this. He always selects quality production and this is no exception. There is definitely quality lyrics and hooks. I also think there is a lot of soul shown in this album.

Mega brings a classic album. Been listening to Mega for awhile now and this album shows change. It's real grown Hip Hop, something that is sorely missing in today's music. This is one of the best albums to come out this year. You will be able to listen to this album years from now.
