I have been seeing a hematologist for chronic, severe iron deficiency anemia for a few years since I had a gastric bypass and cannot properly absorb nutrients from food. I had tried every single formulation of iron (pills and liquid) possible and could not tolerate them as they made me very nauseous and constipated. I had been racking up the medical bills as I then had to go to the hospital or hematologist for iron I.V. therapy. The I.V. iron gave me joint pain and dropped my blood pressure way too low/got dizzy quite often. I even had a trip to the ER due to an allergic reaction to a different kind of I.V. iron. Thought I'd have to live with the iron I.V. side effects until I stumbled upon Mega Food's Blood Builder. I have been taking it faithfully for 6 months and the last 2 times I had my iron levels tested by my hematologist (I get tested now only every 3 months), I have NOT been anemic. To give you an idea of how anemic I was, I should be a level 13 and I was a 7. I even take it on an empty stomach without any side effects! My doc wanted to know what I was doing differently and I handed him a copy of the label of Blood Builder so that he can pass this information along to his other anemic patients. I'm doing so well, that he just called me today to say that he no longer needs to see me and to keep taking this supplement! Please give this a try and do be faithful with taking it every day and you'll get great results like I did and hopefully you can also "break up" with your hematologist!
***12/14/12 UPDATE: Just got my iron levels checked yesterday and they were 14.5!! Oh yah! All-time record high for me.***
***3/19/13 UPDATE: For all of those who have emailed me regarding ferritin levels: My ferritin levels (amount of iron in bone) were good/normal to begin with but my blood/serum iron levels were extremely low so I cannot speak to ferritin levels with this product, only blood/serum levels.

Try it. My doctor and my nutritionist strongly encouraged me to take iron supplements and I wanted to follow their advice but had no luck finding one I could actually convince myself to take every day. Every iron supplement I have tried has made me ridiculously nauseous ~20 mins after I took it, even if I took it with food (Fe dextran, iron gluconate, multivitamins with iron, liquid iron). After so many failed "gentle" iron supplements I was hesitant to try Blood Builder but I am now a believer. I've never felt sick at all, not even when I've taken it on an empty stomach! After 6 weeks my iron levels had reached the normal range. The only downside is they are uncoated pills which should be swallowed as quickly as possible (unless you are partial to eating lightly composted grass clippings, in which case you will love the taste).

My hair grew back and eyelashes, I feel better plus the pills do not make your stomach turn or are binding like most other iron pills. Simply awesome.

I had labs drawn on 8/28/13 and here are the results with acceptable ranges listed in parentheses:

Iron 32 (50-150)
Ferratin (amount of iron in your bone) 12 (20-300)
Hemoglobin 11.5 (12-16)
Hematocrit 35% (36-43)

As you can see, my numbers were low. My doctor wanted to put me on Feraheme infusions which are typically done in an infusion (chemo) clinic. I did the research and knew I wanted no part of this (I should probably mention that I am an RN). About a week after getting these lab results I went to my local health food store and explored my options. Blood Builder was highly recommended. I went online to amazon to check out some reviews and I was sold. I started taking one tablet daily and actually started slacking off about 2 weeks ago taking it about 5 days a week. Anyhoo, on 10/15/13 I went back to have labs drawn. Here are the results below.

Iron: 40
Ferratin: 17
Hemoglobin: 12
Hematocrit: 38%

Guess I won't be needing those infusions, after all! Hope this review is helpful! Peace and blessings!

It's true - no stomach upset, no other nasty side effects, just a good iron supplement. I love that the label tells you where the nutrients have come from, and that there's no nasty additives. Taking an iron pill on an empty stomach was unheard of for me. They were upsetting enough even after a large meal. Not these!!!

Feeling much better after taking these. They are only about 130% of your DVA for iron (I was supposed to be taking somewhere in the 300-400% range) but the difference is that these actually are absorbed in your system. What good is taking a 350% DVA iron supplement if you only absorb 30% of your requirement?

After trying these, I immediately bought more for fellow iron-deficient friends and relatives. No one has reported any side effects, other than feeling better.

Update: Below are my test results before and after using this and green smoothies. I cannot allocate how much is due to the supplements and how much is due to the smoothies, so I strongly recommend both. (I put as much kale as I can tolerate - usually a few leaves - and add a whole banana, OJ, and other fruit and blend together... See my review on the Ninja BL660 if you want more detail.)

The first number is the initial result, the second number is after several months of regular iron supplements and better diet, and the third number is after several months of these supplements and green smoothies:
My ferritin levels went from 3 to 12 to 31 (normal is 13-150)
My iron went from 40 to 78 to 147 (normal is 30-150)
My iron binding capacity went from 562 to 479 to 453 (normal is 250-450)
