Book Description

February 1, 2003
With its native data engine, rich object-oriented language, and capabilities to produce COM servers and consumer Web services, Visual FoxPro is the single most flexible programming tool available to software developers. But in today's programming environment, nothing stands alone. This guide will show developers how to extend the scope and power of Visual FoxPro as a development tool by integrating it with other software technologies. This much-anticipated sequel to 1001 Things You Wanted to Know About VFP both expands coverage of topics such as data driving and reporting and introduces new topics such as e-mail, IntelliSense, charts and graphs, PDF technology, MSDE, COM/DCOM, XML/ADO, and designing for extensibility.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential resource for VFP developers, June 20, 2004
By
This review is from: MegaFox: 1002 Things You Wanted to Know About Extending Visual FoxPro (Paperback)
I must say that I think this is an excellent book, and I have to recommend it whole-heartedly. By now, everyone knows this is not just a sequel to KiloFox, right? It contains information on things that you might expect from the title: ActiveX controls, graphing, e-mail, and PDF output. But there is so much more than I expected: COM/COM+, internet/web development, design patterns, XML, ADO, and more. I had been wondering about the implications of using multi-threaded DLLs, and the whole time it was fully explained in this book. Of course, in KiloFox fashion, it provides a lot of code you can use in your own apps. This is easily one of my favorite VFP books, and I put it up there with the Hacker's Guide in terms of usefulness to VFP developers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Advanced VFP book! Must have!, July 30, 2006
This review is from: MegaFox: 1002 Things You Wanted to Know About Extending Visual FoxPro (Paperback)
Hentzenwerke Publishing is very famous for its technical books, especially among VFP developers. I'd certainly agree to that. The MegaFox book has very deep technical contents and very usable right away. I become more productive already after finishing the first chapter. Some of the stuff are a bit old because the book is based on VFP 7, and right now I'm using VFP 9. But still this doesn't reduce the usefulnes of the tips and tricks in the book pages. I highly recommend every VFP developers to grab this book and check out the other books from Hentzenwerke Publishing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for VFPiers, February 2, 2005
This review is from: MegaFox: 1002 Things You Wanted to Know About Extending Visual FoxPro (Paperback)
This is the first time I write a book review here but I did it because I felt the need to.

The book is an excellent resource guide for vfp developers.
It is intended for intermediate and experienced programmers who want to master VFP. It covers technologies/tools and other aspects that a developer can integrate within its applications. The book covers in great detail Activex, Email, PDF Reports,Charts, internet access, COM/COM+, SQLServer/MSDE and more...

However, the book has a good introduction on design patterns with good examples and many tips on deployment and testing.

My favorite chapter is chapter 13 that talks about pragmatic reusable data classes for talking to different backends.

In addition the reader can find a huge collection of very sophisticated functions /classes in the source that is provided with the book.

Finally, the reader can download the electronic format of the book from Hentzenwerke.com that it was very practical for me.
