Initially found these at Costco but they ran out so I bought them at Amazon. These sensor lights are wonderful. They put out enough light to show a good pool of light to see where you're going but it's not so bright as to be blinding. Sensor is good but not adjustable, which would be a nice addition. Has a light detection sensor also so it will not turn on during the day.
I have a tri-level house so I mounted one under each end of the banisters for each level. Now when anyone in my family uses the stairs at night they don't have to turn on the lights or stumble on the stairs. Light is enough to light the landings but won't burn out your eyeballs at night if you have to use them right after waking up. Would recommend these lights to anyone concerned about safety.

Well, it only lasts about a year. This is just not enough time. It should last about 3-5 years depending on the climate (I am in mild but seasonal mid-atlantic U.S.).

The problem with all these small battery or solar lights is water sealing. For want of a decent rubber gasket, water will and DOES find a way in to these things. I think water got into the motions sensor and that pretty much did it in.

My original review here was positive. It's one of those products that is a great idea but has that one fatal flaw which could have been avoided so easily if the designers had just paid attention.

I liked this light enough to go back to Costco and buy another. I have had no problems with its operation. I suspect that the negative review results from the fact that there is a delay time before the light turns on, when the unit has been previously illuminated. Thus, when you install it (and to do so you have the unit illuminated) and then turn off the external light the unit will not immediately detect motion and turn on. You have to wait a minute or so in darkness, or very low light, before it will activate. However, I do not see this as a problem for actual operation. The 8 LED light give ample light for a doorway or for a larger area when the lamps are positioned flat against the wall, instead of pointing down over the doorway.

I measured the sensitivity and found that when approaching head on the light illuminated at 22 feet, which is only slightly less than the advertised 25 feet. However, the sensitivity was considerably less, only about 10 feet, when approaching from the side.

I bought this unit at Costco, but like most of their products they are not kept in stock, so it is nice to see that I can get another through Amazon should I desire a third.

Bought this item based upon the other reviews I read. It's just as described and very bright and functional. I'm using it in the garage to turn on automatically as the side door from outside opens to provide adequate lighting for walking, accessing the clothes dryer, and getting items from the pantry. The batteries keep the lights very bright for 5-6 months with daily use, multiple times per day.

I too got one of these at Costco, and mounted it back by my garbage area. My son has to take out the trash and hated doing it at night because it was so dark. This does the trick... as soon as he gets near, light turns on...and stays on for about 30 seconds... long enough to do the job.
Well.. I had it for six months.. but hadn't realized the motion detection had stopped working.. which it did. Got another couple of them.. they were both awful after a couple months. I do not recommend.

These units have been a godsend in my unlit basement stairwell, and in other parts of my poorly-lit basement; its wonderful to have a small amount of light coming on and off automatically. They do not put out a huge amount of light; its perhaps like a better-than-average flashlight. I used this product "3M 17201BLK "Command" Medium Picture Hanging Strips - Black, 4 Set" to mount some of them.

I haven't had them long enough to tell how long the batteries will last. I've also tried them in a clothes closet, but the light is kind of ghostly and dim for that application. Note that they have a tiny light-sensor which stops them from activating if enough ambient light is already present. In some applications it might be necessary to put a piece of black tape over the sensor if they need to activate no matter what. I really wish they came in a white/ivory color option!

Mine worked fine for a few months. Then it would erratically turn on, and then it died. With new batteries it still would not sense motion at night. It does function as a flash light. The probability is that it would not be dependable.

We bought 4 of these units, also at Costco in late December and all have been working continuously since then and are working well, I might add. They illuminate a nice size area, albeit only for a limited time but using only a couple batteries to do so! ~ and ours are still running on the original batteries! We use this to light up the area outside our doors for when we take the pups out after dark...perfect for that application as well as extra light at the driveway where the car is parked. We are renting so it is nice to have a simple product that is reasonable in cost and yet hangs on a nail and can easily be moved with us.
