This review is from: Megacity in Latin America (Paperback)
I highly recommend this book. The chapters point at the most important structural problems of Latin American cities while presenting the case study of a specific megacity. Chapters are written by Latin American specialists with ample publishing records. What you get at the end is a coherent sample of structural problems shared by Latin American megacities. Edited by Alan Gilbert, an authority in Latin American urban studies, this book is the best you can find in English language that should be a required reading in advanced undergraduate seminars or graduate courses because it is written clearly but without concesions.
To my dismay, the book is dated. Statistics and even arguments such as Dr. Gilbert's admiration for the case of Bogota, need to be reconsidered in light of the monumental changes and new challenges that these cities are experiencing since the late 1990s. |
