DAMN, THEY'VE DONE IT AGAIN.,
By
This review is from: Megadef (Audio CD)
Now I am gonna explain why this album is rad. Now first off I bought 2000 fold the day it came out and I am a huge SOB fan. I love the feel of this new album, its fresh and stylish. I like that they just didnt do the same old stuff. Now all of you who think its a gangster attitude are wrong. Its not gangster, its angry, dont confuse gangster with angry. Gangsters talk about pimpin their hoes and drivin their cars, but SOB never talks about that stuff. The angry lyrics go with the guitar riffs and raw feel of this album. It feels a lot like Jedi Mind Tricks, who are far from gangster but have heavy angry raps. All yall who think they sold out need to go listen again and get your head straight about whats hip-hop and whats not.

I see a lot of people comparing Megadef with 2000 Fold and that's cool and stuff, but it's been 5 years since SOB has dropped anything. They are gonna change no matter what and in my personal opinion they changed for the better! I love all the beats - Flavor Crystals are awesome and the lyrics are still comparable to none. They outdid themselves!! Pick this record up!!

Bummed on it,

Styles of beyond are one of my most played artists in my collection of music and one of my most favorite underground groups. I have been bumpin these guys for years and always get excited when I show them to my friends. Sadly, this album was not what i expected. What I hoped for was something similar to 2000 fold, amazing flows and original beats. There are 4 songs on this album that are listenable but not even worthy to the worst song on 2000 fold. Many of you are hating what im saying right now, but this is just my opinion. They brought on the start for my fantastic underground hip hop voyage to begin with and i owe it all to 2000 fold. But thats a different review. I hope their next album doesnt turn to hip-pop. But i will always love SOB no matter what.

Exceptional follow up to 2000 Fold,
By
This review is from: Megadef (Audio CD)
I've been anxiously waiting for Styles of Beyond to come out with a follow up to 2000 Fold. Finally my prayers were answered and along comes Megadef. It took me by surprise, how SOB have evolved since 2000 Fold but as I listened to the album more and more, i fell in love with it. It's a great album, the beats and samples are EXCELLENT!! Very inventive. And it's nice to hear SOB come out with something that doesn't sound exactly like 2000 Fold. This album takes the group into a new direction. I recommend this album to anyone who loves and appreciates SOB.

this album is absolutly on fire from the 1st track.i love how they came out of the box for megadef.i was expecting this album to sound like 2000 fold part 2,but once again styles prove that you cant pin them down to a specific sound.mr.brown is probly one of the dopest if not the dopest songs they've ever done.bleach takes you back to the days of 2000 fold as does round em up.im glad they came so raw on this,in a time when hiphop is so pc and soft styles shows em all how its done.ryu seems to have a new found confidence and swagger about him that takes him from a dope rapper,to one of the best in the business.this album is sick, and definetly worth the wait!

after the ABSOLOUGHT classic 2000 Fold, SOB returns after 5 years with 2/3rd as many songs as half as much talent... The rhyming is sick no doubt, with Ryu being sick no doubt, but I can't stand all his gun talk "stick em up punk" "lay that ish down" "you punk motherf'ers" "I stay laced up" "talk about sick 'ish, hit em up" for 14 songs, can't stand it at all... on the other hand, Takbir is FLAWLESS... the entire cd I can't pick one thing wrong with his wordplay, styles and flow...Takbir "IS" styles of beyond,a Ryu is a refind version of a white 50 cent who can rhyme 10x better... nevertheless, I cannot stand his attitude, even if he has stepped up, I don't listen to S.O.B to listen to emcee'ing about guns, blowing away punks and how good I am... this album will grow on your for about 5 listens, but a week after I owned this album, i'm already listening to 2000 fold more than this, which I have had for over 2 years... what does that tell you? this album, although solid is devoid of classics... nothing even approaches the level of style warz, hollograms, spies like us, winnetka exit, survival tactics, killer instinct, or even Marco Polo... Ryu seems to dominate most of the cd, and it suffers greatly becuase of it... if I wanted to hear someone brag about guns, i'd listen to 50 cent, which I wouldn't anyway... ryu is 1 star, takbir is 5 stars, production, although differant, falls off here and gets 3 stars... this is average of 3 stars, though when coming off the back of 2000 Fold, this is VERY weak... keep 2000 fold and your respect for Tiger Chan in San Fernan... Or search the net and download the mixtape 'Styles of Beyond - not from this planet' ... before they broke up and got back together cuz Ryu wanted to be a gangster... I'm probably goina get a bit of flak for this review, who praise whatever S.o.B puts out regardless of quality, you KNOW i'm right... peace,

Man Ive been followin these cats since they was on tha Dust Brotherz label. I am a little concerned they are workin wit a wack label like Ill Boogie. I think tha Ill Boogie artistz are off tha hook but that cat M Boogie izz not a very good biznezz man. Styles Of Beyond - 5 starz. If you like dope azz beatz and catz whoz rhyme skillz are off tha hook then check it out. Thank gawd M Boogie aint producin them. They beatz would sound like bad DJ Premier. Premier izz dope, MBoogz izz not. Matt stick to producin. Propz to Stylez, Spy Tech and tha hip hop nation. Peace...

This album is not 2000 Fold. DO NOT EXPECT IT TO BE!!! These reviews that critisize this album for not sounding like their first really pisses me off. Artists have the right to change sounds. Look at Blackalicous' change from their "Nia" sound to the "Blazing Arrow" sound. And yes, to those who feel they're too gangster.....do you know them? what they're really like? maybe they were more soft on 2000 fold than you think. The lyrical content is still great, but more playful this time around. Not everyone can be Mos Def or Talib Kweli. Not everyone can have that perfect sound and you know what? F*ck anyone who judges these guys for doing what they love. Your pretentious college boy bullish cretiques can kiss my ass. This album is great. Go buy it
