About the Author

Bill Hale started photographing rock and roll bands in 1979 at the age of 18. In the 80s, Bill was the Chief Photographer for Metal Rendezvous International magazine. While on staff he was able to shoot many of the top bands of the day including Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Riot, and UFO. Bill was fortunate enough to photograph many legends on their last tours of the states, Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy), Bon Scott (AC/DC), Freddie Mercury (Queen), and Rory Gallagher, to name a few. He also photographed Metallica and published his work on them in a book called Metallica: The Club Dayz 1982-1984 (ECW Press, 2009). Bill now lives in Hawaii and still works with rock-and-rollers.

"MRV" gave 1st press to some of the biggest metal and Hard rock bands of the day. Anthrax, W.A.S.P., L.A. Guns and Armored Saint, the list goes on... Bill worked exclusively with MRV, yet, his work appeared in such Metal Magazines like Kerrang (UK), Enfer (France) and Metal Mania (San Francisco).

Being a huge fan of Bill Hale's first book "Metallica: The Club Dayz 1982-1984" and a big Megadeth fan, I have to admit that I expected this latest release be up to snuff with its predecessor. One thing is for sure folks, this book is directly if not more than on par with Club Dayz....and that was/is a hard book to top! To begin with, the construction quality of this book is phenomenal; sure that might not sound important but what is the sense in reading a book that will just fall apart on you in no time flat? The most appealing part of the book, the real meat and potatoes so to speak, are the tons and tons of photos straight of Bill's photo vault. Each photo, from the live shots to the good old candid photos, shows just the sheer raw nature of an awesome heavy metal band in its fledgling years. I was amazed to see so many photos of what is, in my opinion, the best Megadeth lineup that has ever existed to date (Mustaine, Ellefson, Poland, and Samuelson). Another extremely cool surprise were photos of the band with Mike Albert, the little known fill-in member of Megadeth who took over the lead guitar duties for Chris Poland. In conclusion, from the sheer quality of the book's construction to its absolutely awesome photos, what Bill Hale has put together is yet another must have for any Megadeth or heavy metal fan! Plain and simple folks, just buy the book; you will not be disappointed, that's for sure.

While I expected more context to the book, the pictures were enjoyable & allowed me to go back in time, that is, in Dave Mustaine's career, to see how much he's really come since his day's of hard drinking, drugs & partying. He's a damned GOOD musician & much better guitar MASTER, than James Hetfield could EVER think of being!!! And, he also relates to his FANS, who are the people that make him!! Do you EVER SEE HETFIELD DO THAT?? NOOO!!! MR. TOO FULL-OF-HIMSELF HETFIELD as I call Him!!! Such an Ass!!! Love You Dave!!! Keep on Rockin!!! Can't get enough of MUSTAINE!!! Another thing is that DAVE can SING James what happened to your voice?? It got up & went where??? Can't hear you at all~~SERIOUSLY!!! Maybe some voice or a vocal coach could help.

When James Hetfield decided to "boot" Dave MUSTAINE from Metallica it was the worst financial (yet the BEST FOR Dave); in a couple of years, maybe less, I truly expect to see MEGADETH, overtake & leave Metallica in the DUST!!!!! Sorry, James!!!! Think about what you did to Dave, putting him on that Bus, no food, at the mercy of strangers & 4 Days until he got to California. Rotten Deal Man!!! Made Dave a Much Stronger Man though & Learned He Wouldn't Go Through Life Not Being His OWN BOSS!!! HE'S ON TOP NOW & NOT COMING DOWN VERY EASY....HEE!!! HEE!!! HEE!!!!

I always wanted to have an official biography and photography book of Megadeth. With Dave Mustaine biography book released 2 years ago and now this, I'd say I'm happy to this on my collection, although I'd prefer overall career photography rather than just the first few years but its still worth getting if you're Megadeth fan.

Being a long-time devotee of all things Mega, I was thrilled when I heard about this book. Ripping it open was the most exciting thing, though. While I appreciate the candidness of many of the photos, they just aren't that good. Do we need 5 variations of the same shot? With lousy captions? Most of the best pictures have already been published, many in "Mustaine". There are, however, gorgeous live portraits of Dave on pgs 86-87.

This is the first time I've ever reviewed anything online, but I was truly disappointed by this book.
