One word - Incredible,
By
This review is from: Megaforce Years (Audio CD)
Best known as BC's most successful comeback attempt. "The Beast is Back" was originally released with little fanfare in 1985 on the Megaforce label. BC returns to their roots with the ultra-heavy and loud sound of the early days. For the fan of the mellower, softer BC - pass this baby up. The BC of old is back with a vengence.Original members Dickie Peterson (vox, bass) and Paul Whaley (drums) are joined by guitarist Tony Rainier as they dive into some classic BC songs as well as freshly penned ones. Producer Jon Zazula makes BC's sound very contempary. You never thought BC could sound so good. The standouts are "Out of Focus", "Parchment Farm" and "Ride with Me." The whole album is wonderful however. If you like the first 2 albums. I strongly suggest you purchase this before it goes out of print (again). Its BC back on all 12 cylinders doing what they do best. Keep a'rocking Dickie.. Keep a'rockin...

alot of blue cheer albums that were released after the vincebus eruptum album strayed away from the "heavy" sound. i like all the blue cheer releases but this one brings it all back to the beginning. dickie peterson's vocals are sensational. all tracks are kickass. a must for all collectors of this power trio.

The beast IS back ....,

After going through a dry periold without at least one other original member, Blue Cheer finally came back the formula that made them one of the Fathers of Heavy Metal Rock. They've gone back to their Blues roots and added that special touch of hard rock that drew me to the way, way back when.If you want some good 60's style Hard Rock "Beast" is for you.

Hard Rocking with Feeling - All Heart!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Megaforce Years (Audio CD)
This is Blue Cheer playing 4 songs off the 1st 2 lps and some other songs. Some may be new; my favorites are "Ride with Me" and "Heart of the City". The whole CD rocks with feeling, there are no weak songs or uninspired efforts. Although the original Blue Cheer versions of Parchment Farm and Summertime Blues from their 1st lp might be just about impossible to ever out-do the band rerecords both them with spirit. There is lots of very different lead guitar work on the rerecorded Parchment Farm. If you like this CD then you definitely want to listen over and over again to their first lp Vincebus Eruptus that includes the extended ravers "Doctor Please" and "Second Time Around".

Blue Cheer - 'Beast Is Back: The Megaforce Years' (Megaforce),
By
This review is from: Megaforce Years (Audio CD)
Never even knew about this CD,until here recently. A 1985 reunion between two original Blue Cheer members, bassist / vocalist Dickie Peterson and drummer Paul Whaley. They had guitarist Tony Rainier play on this one album. I was a bit caught off guard. I mean, this CD is better than what I expected. Title has several reworkings of older tunes, like "Summertime Blues" and "Out Of Focus", but also good newly penned tracks like the rocker "Ride With Me", "Girl Next Door" and "Heart Of The City". So even though 'Beast Is Back...' is half new, half old material, it's still a worthy pick. Good revived late '60's heavy rock. Check it out.

Great then and now,

I was a high school senior when this came out and I bought it immediately, having been a fan prior. This was a great album, particularly when weighed against some of the cheesy garbage that was being cranked out by big haired spandex pseudo-metal bands. I had (and still have) a lot of respect for these guys. I think they rank as one of the most underappreciated bands in the genre. Dickie has a great voice, and can get some dirty blues out (especially now, older and after zillions of cigarettes, drinks, and ....who knows what else....).

The Loudest Band On Earth,

This review is from: Megaforce Years (Audio CD)
Back in the 80's I had a saying:If the guitars sound like chainsaws and the drums sound like cannons, its music to my ears.I bought this album when it came out in 85',but lost it when my basement flooded. Thanks to Amazon, the beast is definitely back.If you have a taste for 80's heavy metal with a blues feel to it,then this will make you a Blue Cheer fan for life!!!!!

This band will kick your ass! I would put them against ANY newer metal band and they will always come out on top. Don't believe me? Play "Ride with me" on a good, loud stereo and you will see exactly what I mean. The low tom drum and the bass against the shredding metal guitar work perfectly against the vocals, which shred as much as the guitar! YOU SIMPLY CANNOT GET MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK, ANYWHERE!

The cd is good because they recorded the songs with better tech than the first and 2nd records that Blue Cheer made. However I still prefer the original recordings with the original lead guitarist. Warts and all. I do wish they could re-master the 1st and 2nd albums and re-release them but in the meantime I will still listen to them as poorly recorded as they were. Those 3 guys were psychedelic as it gets and were just plain awesome!!!!!

Not as good as Outside Inside, or Vincebus Eruptum albums, which featured leigh stephens on guitar, which made the purity of the cheer's sound, and without it, the music looses aome authenticity
