4.0 out of 5 stars Good for traffic
I bought this horn because I didn't want one that ran off of compressed air and the "ding-ding" bell I have isn't loud enough to use in traffic. I still use my "ding-ding" bell to let pedestrians know I'm passing them, but I use this horn to try to get the attention of cars. I especially use it when I see a car about to pull out in front of me and the driver is...

I still use my "ding-ding" bell to let pedestrians know I'm passing them, but I use this horn to try to get the attention of cars. I especially use it when I see a car about to pull out in front of me and the driver is preoccupied on a cell phone. Since it makes a distinctive sound, it usually gets drivers' attention. It would be nice, though, if it were louder but this is a good one for the convenience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, August 10, 2006
Love it! It's LOUD and gets the drivers attention when you need it. Better then the Airzorn I think. It takes batteries and it doesnt require a water bottle cage to use.

I bought this to put on a golf cart. It is loud and sounds like a cricket with a megaphone. I was hoping for more of a horn sound, but it does get people's attention. I would give it 5 stars, but the end of the strap, that attaches the button, came off. It shouldn't be too hard to fix.

2.0 out of 5 stars good until it gets water..., September 9, 2010

Wile it worked it was quite good, the sound is annoying enough to get pedestrian's attention. However, after it got some rain (something normal) the sound came 99% down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, November 18, 2006
This is a great horn. Very easy to attach to bike without tools. You will need 9v battery which is also very easy to put in. Sound is perfect for my needs on rail-to-trail biking. My only beef is it is not water resistant/proof. Not sure how much noise reduction I'll get by simply putting a light plastic bag w/rubberband over unit for rain rides but I think that it will be loud enough...not much traffic on the trail on rain days anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars An attention getter!, July 28, 2008
This review is from: Megalert Mega Horn Electronic Bicycle Horn 105 db (Misc.)
Great use on the bike for day & especially night time riding. Plenty of Alert time to other riders and walkers on a trail. Safe and easy to use. Highly recommend to all who ride a bike at night!

4.0 out of 5 stars Awsome..., July 21, 2009
This review is from: Megalert Mega Horn Electronic Bicycle Horn 105 db (Misc.)
I got the horn after mixed sucess with conventional bells for my recumbent tadpole trike. Was easy to mount and as advertized is very loud. The sound produced instantly gets attention and altough the price doubled with shipping to Canada it was still worth it. Niagra Cycle was easy to deal with and shipped the item as promised.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not loud enough for traffic, December 8, 2007
This horn is not loud enough for use in traffic. It might or might
not be heard by a driver in a quiet car with the windows up. It is
not likely to be heard by a driver with the windows up and music
playing at a moderate level.

According to a noise level comparison site,
105db is about as loud as a power mower, and not nearly as loud as a
car horn.

I might go back to one of the dual- or triple-trumpeted horns with
the rubber bulb. Unfortunately, my last one fell apart - the
trumpets kept falling off and now they don't work anymore.

Or I might get an Airzound.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best electronic horn you can get (cheap, too!), May 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I really like this "Mega Horn." I was a bit skeptical when I ordered it, but when it came all my worries vanished. This horn is certainly very loud, but that is a good thing. I am a daily commuter to my job about a mile away, and I ride my bike every chance I get. I need to cross a semi-major road to get there, so I always wanted something for assurance that people will see me. The sound this thing makes isn't exactly a horn, but sound more like a reverse alarm (like on vans and busses). An odd thing I found out was that if it was mounted vertically, the sound seemed to pulse, but when horizontal it was a solid tone. Since I mount it horizontally, I get a solid tone. I can chirp it when I'm riding and there's someone oblivious to my presence, and they'll generally move over. When I'm crossing an intersection I am often cut off by those drivers that pull out WAY past the stop line, so I beep this thing a couple times while crossing and it usually gets their attention.

I recommend it!

On a side note, the rubber material on the button that wraps around the handlebar broke for me, but it was easy to jury-rig a zip-tie, so no problem there.
