This is an entertaining introductory catalogue of prehistoric sites in Europe. The photos are broad and clear giving a good sense of location and the write-ups on each site, if not exhaustive, is interesting and informative. Definitely enough to spark the imagination and encoursge personal visits! I found the book mostly useful as a actalogue of sites, not as a definitive academic work of archaeology or anthropology. It is a fun romp across Europe!
The only draw back is the mass of the work. It is HEAVY! Certainly the parlour table book, rather than the portable travel guide. Then again, it contains a lot of information and opinion. (What doesn't mix the two?) Its a megalithic work on megalithic peoples of Europe. |
