4.0 out of 5 stars sampler
Megan McCauley has a strong individual sound in her voice. Her music is a different but beautiful combination, kinda like Michelle Branch meets Avril Lavigne. Her sampler only has a few songs on it but most of her music you've probably already heard because she's already been on several soundtracks ex. fantastic four and Elektra. If you want a few more good songs to...

1.0 out of 5 stars buy the full CD - don't waste money on this.
Her full CD is now available on iTunes -- and will be traditionally released on Oct 23rd according to her site... there is no reason to drop $70 on this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Promising Introduction for a Good Artist, April 17, 2008
This review is from: Megan McCauley Sampler (Audio CD)
I, like most, was first introduced to Megan McCauley through the Elektra and Fantastic Four soundtracks. I was blown away by the raw feeling her vocals produced. Megan McCauley is like a mix between Hole and Evanescence, a rocker and a talented singer that does not fall into the Avril Lavigne pop/rock kingdom.

When her sampler was released, I was very excited, but I did wait until I found it for only $9 to buy it (however much I may like her, I will not spend $70 on a four track CD (as a reviewer before me pointed out)). I was not disappointed with what I found.

"Die for You" was featured on the Fantastic Four soundtrack, and is a wonderful introductory showcase of McCauley's vocal range and darker rock stylings as she vents the frustrations of her love. This moves into the harsh and also dark "I'll Pay You to Shoot Him," which is a raw autobiographical track about her relationship with her father. There is something inescapably creepy about a young woman singing almost cheerfully about offering a police officer money to "blow his brains out."

Next is "Fragile," a harsh and sarcastic rocker that reveals a more sensitive side of McCauley, yet somehow retaining the caustic toughness that sets her apart in her debut EP. It finishes with "Wonder," the acoustic/rock ballad from the Elektra soundtrack. With deeper lyrics ("When bleeding is feeling and feeling ain't real/Will I see when I open my eyes?" she laments) and a catchy tune, "Wonder" is a showcase of McCauley's talents as a songwriter (she wrote this when she was 14) and a soaring vocalist.

If you enjoy rock music that throws back to when you had to be a talented singer to get into the business instead of sex symbol with poppy blonde hair, you will love Megan McCauley. She is a promising new artist who is sure to go on to great places. And if you ever get the chance to purchase this for a reasonable price, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will the fools at Wind-Up please stand up?, August 22, 2007
This review is from: Megan McCauley Sampler (Audio CD)
Release the album already! I've been a fan of Megan's since hearing 'Wonder' of the Elektra soundtrack, arguably the most radio-friendly of all her songs. I purchased this item at around $10 and haven't been disappointed.

Her voice is raw, Pink with an edge. Her music is honest, emotional and mesmerizing. I haven't been able to get her songs out of my head since. The songs I'd rate individually, best to least best (none merit a 'worst' rating) as follows:

"Wonder"- "When breathing's a burden we all have to bear/ and trust is one thing we're taught never to share". The girl can write, that's obvious. This song is one of her best out there, and extremely radio friendly in my opinion. Anybody who has heard one of her songs would recommend this one. The guitar and gritty tone of her voice compliment each other well and it makes the song all the more personal and relatable.

"Fragile"- Girl power and human angst at its finest. "I am fragile/but I'm strong enough/I am wanted/enemy number one/I am lying 'cause I never fell/if you need me follow me to hell." This song is another gem off this EP. You'll be singing along to the chorus the minute you listen to this song.

"I'll Pay You To Shoot Him"- Definately the most emo on the EP. Full of pain, this song is about a girl begging to be freed from the abuses of her father. "Officer/Will you please?/I'm begging you/On my knees/I'll pay you/To shoot him now." The violent nature of this song repelled me from it at first, but after listening to it I began to realize it was more painful than angry. This is also the 'hardest' instrumentally in order to coincide with the theme of the song. This one probably wouldn't do well on the airwaves but it is definately a must have.

"Die For You"- of "The Fantastic Four" fame, this song is probably second best known to "Wonder". The chorus isn't as catchy, but Megan's harmonies and amazing vocals make this song a must-have none-the-less. I prefer to listen to the section after the bridge more often than not but I still love the song.

Overall I HIGHLY recommend this CD. Each song is amazing in its own way. I'd recommend this to anyone. I'd also recommend 'Tap That', her latest single. It's extremely different than these four songs but it's still good Megan material.

I've been pestering my friends to listen to her music since I discovered her and I've converted a few who now love her. Wind-Up's website shows her new CD debuting this fall, so here's hoping they mean it this time. 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' will be a sure success if this EP is any indication.

*Note-I don't know that I'd personally pay the $50 pricetag this item is currently at. If found at a lower price, I'd definately recommend snatching it up!
