Empath Megan Fields has retreated to the deserts of New Mexico to work as a Sheriff's Deputy. Her skills as an empath have prevented her from following her dream, so she spends her days patrolling remote landscapes. Far away from town, she rarely encounters anyone, much less trouble. Until the day she finds two dead Breeds. All hell breaks loose when someone starts shooting at Megan. Saved by Lion Breed Enforcer, Braden Arness, Megan isn't sure who to trust. Someone wants Megan dead. But why?

Braden Arness is on a mission; a mission for Breed justice that brings him to New Mexico and Megan Fields. Megan makes his senses react like no other woman ever has. Braden and Megan spark an indescribable heat and lust from just one kiss. A heat that won't go away. When it's clear that Megan's life is in danger, Braden will do what it takes to protect Megan and destroy those who want her dead.

Have you ever read a book that made you want to beg an author for the next book in the series? A book that evoked a response so strong that you wanted to shout out to the world how much you loved it? Maybe buy a billboard declaring it toe-curlingly awesome! Well, that's how Megan's Mark made me feel. I absolutely LOVED this book.

The action and suspense were paced superbly, the characters well-developed with the paranormal world of the Breeds beautifully crafted. And the sexiness? The erotic elements of the book made me tremble. My entire body shook with need. I wanted to BE Megan. I wanted Braden with every fiber of my being. It was amazing! Few writers can make me feel that way.

For newcomers to the world of the Breeds, Megan's Mark can be read as a stand alone and is a great place to begin your journey. Long time fans will find that Megan's Mark is Ms. Leigh's best work yet. All in all, Megan's Mark is an eye-crossing, thigh clenching, heart pounding, delicious read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Concept, June 17, 2006

I wish people who did not like erotica or paranormal stories would refrain from reviewing books they should not have purchased in the first place. This is great for both its concept about breeds, its explicit sex scenes, adventure and excitement. If this is not what you want in a book, then don't purchase this and please don't review it if you do. Those of us who like these kinds of paranormal romances will love the fact that this is part of a long series and we can expect more, Jonas's story for one, in the future. I'm a fan and will continue to purchase Lora Leigh's original and fascinating series. Keep them coming. For those of you who want the series in order, here it is: Tempting the Beast, The Man Within, Elizabeth's Wolf, Kiss of Heat, Soul Deep, Wolfe's Hope, Jacob's Faith, Aiden's Charity, Hot Spell(anthology), Megan's Mark - have fun!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Fantasy Romance, May 18, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Lora Leigh gives us one of her sensual romances in the Feline Breed Series. The series is about the men and women who are gene engineered by the people who want to make a super killing disposable soldier, by mixing animal DNA with human DNA. I have read all her other books in the series and this one fits in just fine.

Megan Fields is an empath, she is living in the desert and works as a deputy for her cousin because she is unable to shield her mind from the thoughts and emotions of those around her. She has given up her dream of working in Special Ops and is existing as she feels life is passing her by.

Braden Arness is a Lion Feline Breed, he has been sent to protect Megan since his boss has discovered someone has killed two breeds and tried to kill Megan. Braden is a loner, he is devoted to trying to find the men and women who raised and brutalized the breeds before they escaped from the holding cells where they were tested and bred to be killing machines.

Few people know that the breeds can mate. And few breeds do find their mate, it is unknown what lets them know they have found their mate but once they do they leave a mark on the shoulder of the chosen one. All of the mates so far have been human but it is possible that at sometime a breed may find his mate to be another breed.

Now Braden must keep Megan alive and he has discovered that she is his mate. He and Megan must find out who wants her dead and why. It must be something she knows, but what is it? Togather they will face the challenge of becoming mates and the terror of facing death.

Once again Lora Leigh has given us a taut, fast paced, action, thriller. I think this new series will catch alot of attention.

This book was on its way to at least a 4-star review from me, 'til Braden went over-the-top alpha toward the end. Up until then, the storyline was very interesting (this is my first Breeds book) and I liked both of the two main characters. I especially liked that Megan was so strong and independent. But by the end Braden had to show her who was boss with a rather disturbing anal sex scene that instead of being an exploration of intimacy is rather a crude dominance/submission struggle used to put Megan in her place. I guess if you are into that sort of thing, this will be right up your alley. But I like more romance in my love scenes, so this left me disappointed and cheapened the rest of the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Breeds Story To Date, March 3, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've read her Breeds (Wolf, Feline) books, and been disappointed with the lack of plot. It's such an interesting concept - super-soldiers created by using DNA from the most dangerous animal predators, such as wolves and lions - and I'm such a SciFi/Paranormal fan, I couldn't resist buying the novels. Unfortunately, the sex-sex-sex in the other breed books gets in the way of the plot.

Megan's Mark is the first story to let the plot lead the way... and because of it, the sex in the book is soooo much better! It's like getting to know a (good) man before (great) sex - by letting us get to know the characters and their stories, Lora Leigh makes the steamy scenes so much hotter!

Also, I liked that the Breed soldier/alpha male in this story isn't quite as alpha as the characters in the other books. As an alpha female like Megan, I like for the male characters in novels to give their women a little more leeway about being slaves... oops, I mean submissive. Megan is a tough cop, although an empath, and her man wants her to fight beside him, not hide behind him. Sigh! This book was fantastic. You feel the love and tenderness grow between the characters, and the sex - like all of Lora's books - is fantastically hot. Also, this book is set in the near future (about 20 years from now, if I remember correctly), and Lora's scifi approach to "current" military technology makes for a realistic and fun read. RECOMMENDED!

4.0 out of 5 stars Deliciously Sinful!, July 30, 2006
This book is described as the first book in the series but I feel that if I read the Feline Breeds Book 1 that I would have a better understanding of the suffering of the Breeds. However, it seems that the Tempting the Beast Feline Breeds Book One is really the first book. Am I wrong?

I have read a ton of fantasty, sci-fi, romance, and highly erotic books. However, this one had me on fire! I had to send my hubby out of the room. He always wants to know what I am reading. I had to hide the book from my kids so, they could not glimpse at any of the pages. I never knew that the sex scenes in any erotic book could be so hot! This book contained all the above genres.

Megan Fields is a Sherrif's Deputy in the New Mexico. She stays away from people due to the fact that she is an empath and gets overwhelmed with people's emotions. She has trained to be an FBI agent and escaped that hoping for a quiet and dull life. She comes from a family of empaths. She is partnered with Braden Arness a hunk of a man. There is an immediate chemistry. She has no idea that he is part lion until later on in the story. It turns out that her enemies are part Coyote and always attacking the Lions. Braden's special breeding allows him to protect Megan from emotional overload using his shields. Megan tries to resist him and do things on her own. Braden is with her at every turn.

The one flaw of the book is the discovery that she bit Braden after he claimed her with a bite. She is a virgin and has read some "how to" books. However, I am sure that she knew that biting is not normal. Hey, as kids we are told that biting is dangerous not to mention germy. They throw you out of school if you bite! I do not think a virgin would be so ignorant especially, if she has girlfriends! (Boy, do they talk!)Did Megan read the "how to" books. This is the one part that gave the book four stars not five. However, it was not such a bad thing that it affected the flow of the story.

Boy, this is love in the modern age! You will never guess what happens between Megan and Braden. HAHA! However, it is definitely a great read. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series! I have never read a supernatural or paranormal romance that is this creative and is so sexual. It makes me blush! I recommend this book highly!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Addition to the Breed Series, May 5, 2006
I have been reading Lora Leigh for awhile. I was excited when I read that she was continueing her Breed series with Berkley. This was a good book with her typical alpha male and spunky heroine. I am glad to see that she will have another release in this series in December. If this is the first you have heard of Ms. Leigh please go to her website and learn about the rest of this series which starts with 'Tempting the Beast'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Try them in order., November 10, 2007

Alley Girl "AAA" (Vancouver, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This series was previously published by Ellora's Cave. So the Breeds Book 1 isn't actually accurate. Lora Leigh says she wrote the books to be read in any order, but I am obsessive compulsive about reading books in order. So whatever... Anyhoo, if you want to read the books in the chronological story line try them as follows: Tempting the Beast, The Man Within, Elizabeth's Wolf, Kiss of Heat, Soul Deep, The Breed Next Door (in the Hotspell anthology), Megan's Mark, Harmony's Way, Tanner's Scheme, Dawn's Awakening, Wolfe's Hope (in the Primal Heat anthology), Jacob's Faith, and Aiden's Charity.

And, by the way, I definitely recommend this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, Intense and Satisfying, May 10, 2006
I found Megan's Mark to be a totally satisfying read. Megan is a strong woman with unique abilities that are beautifully complimented by Braden, her mate. The intense connection they have kept me riveted. The sex was scorching hot. Shoot, it singed my eyebrows!

I found the technology and high tech vehicles interesting and totally believable. The elements of love, suspense and sexual tension meshed perfectly into an unforgettable story. I am hooked on the delicious Breeds and desperately want one for my own! I can't recommend Megan's Mark enough!

2.0 out of 5 stars No way is this a five star book, February 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was impressed by the high rating on the Breed series books, so I bought the first two. However, after reading this one, I checked the ratings again, and low and behold, lots of folks were actually in the middle on this one. Ah ha! Thought I was nuts for a minute there.

I've got to agree with the reviewers who gave this 2-3 stars (if you thought this book is worthy of five stars, read some more). There's no denying, the sex is hot (bordering on nasty, but hey, if that's how you like it, it works). Here's the problem -- the characters don't inspire me to feel anything for them. I should love them or hate them by the end, and instead I felt indifferent. To my tastes, this book feels more like erotica rather than paranormal romance, where all the emphasis is on the sexual action, and nothing is doled out to character development, plot, and dialog.

I hate to judge a series or author on only one read, so I also started to read book 2, which I had already bought (*sigh*). I stopped reading after a couple of chapters. I don't recommend this one.
