3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but not what I hoped for
Tomoe Shinohara is a very accomplished entertainer and performer in Japan. She has a number of hit songs that are easily found on U-Tube. Unfortunately, none of those songs are on this CD. :^(

This CD is one of the greatest! Tomoe is very good! I have this CD along with three others of her's (an Audio, Suupaamoderu, Deep Sound Channel...). ... . Very good music...! I would recommend her music to anyone! Especially Kuru Kuru Mirakuru, Shopping A-Z, Ultra Relax, and Loop People! BTW, the ones that say (In Japanese) are... Metoro no Musume (The Metro Girl), Pareito (Parade), Haroo Sutiiun (Halo...?), Kokoro no Usagi (Spirit of the Rabbit), and (a kanji I don't know...)i ni Iku no (something about a visit ^_^). I would highly recommend this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome~~!, January 8, 2000
This review is from: Megaphone Speaks (Audio CD)
Kino, Osaka kara kaietekita. One of the incremental benefits of my visit was increasing my cd collection by 9, now 10 total :) A third of those were Shinohara Tomoe titles... Megaphone Speaks represents her singing pretty well. The first time I knew of Shinohara was watching rebro of -Rising Sun- from KTSF. I liked the series for many reasons. For new year's I spent my time with relatives and got to see the 12/30 RS special and also LoveLove2000 at Tokyo Stadium. Shinohara is really cute and funny and it would be fantastic if she came to SF or Berkeley (other than LA and NY;o) MP is a good cd to get if you'd like to introduce yourself to Shinohara Tome! *^_^*

4.0 out of 5 stars Megaphone is great, but..., June 30, 2002
This review is from: Megaphone Speaks (Audio CD)
Attention Japanese weird-rock fans! This album contains performances and production from members of the Boredoms, Shonen Knife and a host of other cool bands. However, Shinohara's debut album, produced by Denki Groove's mad genius Takkyu Ishino and featuring the tremendous Surf Coasters is much, much better. Shinohara is totally nuts (for a J-Pop artist) and highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique and fun CD!, October 21, 2000

Out of all the Shinohara Tomoe music I have, the songs on this CD are probably my favorite group (Well, besides Ultra Relax...). Shinohara's music is different and very fun, and the stuff on this CD ranges from slow and sweet to completely off the wall and goofy. Shinohara Tomoe has tons of style and is the most unique and original Jpop artist I have ever heard. This album showcases some of her best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything from ultra-bizzare to mega-talented., March 28, 1999

Having just returned from three years in Japan; I saw Shinohara-chan's rise from LoveLoveAishiteru (japan T.V. show)"Q-A Clown" to become an enigma of the Japaneese music world. Her latest album "Megaphone Speaks" shows off her maturing, multi-faceted talent (check out song #10). I admire her creativity so much that I started the "gaijin division" of the Shinorers Club.

She must be a funky singer. Her voice is so cute and wild, and the music is super funky and sounds like pop-punk. If you like Shonen Knife, then this is the one you must get!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Shinohara invades the US., March 9, 1999

This crazy kid is kinda cute, well she is 20 now and graduating from a college. She will be stoked if she gets to know that her CD is sold in the US. Anyway, this CD includes all the major songs she sings, even stuff she made. IF you wanna be super hyper like her, then you should get it 'cause her voice is like caffeine or even prozac!!

The music here is interesting, experimental, but not 4 or 5 star material in my opinion. Perhaps this was the beginning of her career. Heck - Pink Floyd made a bunch of garbage in their first few years, then got into an artistic groove and - well the rest is history. Probably need to order from a Japanese language catalog to get the more popular hits from this artist -- unfortunately I don't speak or read Japanese well enough to find it.
