This is a wonderful webcam. Many users seem to have had trouble with this or have had complaints about the image quality so I decided to make a video review with this camera to show you how well it does work. The Camera looks toy-ish in the picture, but it does not feel cheap at all. I am very happy with this webcam, and it is great for the 7.00 price tag. By the way, when Put the border around the picture with the German flag colors in the corner, I am saying I speak German (Ich spreche deutsch). The programs I mentioned are both free, and are called Debut Video Capture Software and ManyCam. I hope the video itself will put to rest any concerns you have about image quality and compatibility, at least with Windows Vista.

This is a great little USB web cam for very little money. When testing a dozen or so different web cams, I found this the easiest to use and the least expensive.

This cam does not come with software, and does not have fancy features like zoom, autofocus, and subject tracking. It is fixed focal length and focus, like a cheap still camera.

I found the lack of software to be a plus, as most all webcam software borders on being malware with its invasive and obnoxious effects on Windows. I have not tried it with Linux yet, but will update this review when I do.

This camera worked out of the box on standard Windows camera drivers, and for simple web conferencing, it is great. I have used it with the Elluminate service, and it functions quite adequately.

If you need a basic, generic, USB webcam and don't want to shell out nearly $100 for a good one, give this beastie a try. It isn't fancy, but it works.

I have also now tried this camera on the MSI Wind Barebone computer running Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. It works well with Linux, too.

I recently got my 5th one of these cameras, and it arrived damaged (poor packaging). I emailed HDE through Amazon and immediately got a response and they sent a new camera. Customer service like that is just darned hard to find. Good job!

Brought this camera to chat with my husband in Iraq. Camera works GREAT! Very clear picture. Im actually buying another one for my husband so he doesnt have to share. The only thing to make this better would be a built in mic.

well, for people who still didnt buy it, DONT !
it's a piece of junk, its name is : "5.0 Megapixel USB PC Webcam Camera for PC Laptop Notebook" sounds like we will have a picture quality of 5.0 Megapixel for a cool price. But the think is (after few reserch) i found that "5.0 Megapixel USB PC Webcam" is the name of the brand !!! and not reference of the quality !! wich it means you'll buy something like : "xxx Camera for PC Laptop Notebook" and there's nothing to say about the quality or anything else.
and for real this camera quality is 0.7 Megapixel wich is the lowest quality you can find for webcams

I purchased this webcam solely because I wanted the 5 mega pixel capability. However, I never had any indication that it was capable or more than 640x480 (0.3 mega pixels). I was provided a driver file by email but the installation program did not recognize the camera and aborted. The manufacturer isn't identified and I had no luck Googling information from the USB info(0C45_62F0). It was Returned. Similar low resolution cameras can be found for less money.

We ordered one of these as a "test" -- the price & claim was too good to pass up.
Tested it w/o custom drivers (Windows XP) and it was recognized & was perfect. Quality was awesome -- focused fast.
Worked in low lights; and in really low lights there's a rheostat switch on the cable to increase the lights (visible white LED)
Works well. We ordered 2 more for a video conference test.
Pending results & what my client says -- we will order more for his company in-house conferencing system.

The "windows" drivers recognize it and works out of the box -- no drivers came with it; images at 640x480 only with our software... Hopefully the custom drivers will increase that.

Recommended -- for the price, you can't go wrong!

Update: There are no custom drivers for this; so you're stuck with whatever windows recognizes it as, in my case (on 3 os's) it's 640x480.

Fast delivery. Webcam installed ok on XP. Terrible image quality as the webcam can not adjust well for lighting, and has poor resolution. It's not 5.0 megapixel, I think that's just part of the name. Manual focus broke first time I tried to adjust it. The price is low for a reason.

The product description claims "4 LED lights for night vision viewing".

They're for blinding the person using the camera. They're extra bright white LEDs, not infra-red, as "night vision" describes.

I unplugged it after a minute, most of which was spent picking up my jaw at the audacity of the seller using a lie to describe this product.

Yes, strictly speaking the words "night" and "vision" can be used to describe something that floods an area with bright light so as to make it possible to have "vision" at "night", but this is NOT what "night vision" means.

It's bulky compared to other webcams, it has that flimsy shiny tacky feeling. I'm dropping it in a donation box somewhere so that some charity can benefit. It would probably cost me more than this thing cost me to return it and cross my fingers for a refund of any kind.

Yes, I know. For $7 what did I expect? I expected the description not to outright lie.

This camera is NOT 5 mega pixels. Its a big hunk of crap and it came thrown inside a USPS envelope with nothing else. WTF happened to honesty and integrity. Don't buy this item.

I just bought this webcam last week. I have two other webcams but they are both designed for laptop, which means they have a much shorter cable. That makes them much harder to use on my desktop. So I started looking for one for my desktop computer which my wife uses to talk to the in-laws. My previous webcams are creative and logitech, in the $40 price range. I am not quite satisfied with their image quality but I don't want to pay $100 for a highend webcam either. I found this webcam by accident and the reviews are not bad and the price is right. How can you go wrong with a $12 webcam. So I decided to give it a try.

The packaging is almost none. Only a clear plastic bag. No manual either. There is a Ulead Video Studio 8 CD but no driver. The good news is it is super simple to install. Just plug in and 10 seconds later WindowsXP said it was installed and ready to use. I immediately tested it in Skype. The picture quality is the best I have ever seen in a web cam. Very natural color even in not well lit room. My previous Creative cam used to be very dark or very bright, most of the time redish in this condition. But this cam did a perfect job. The lens look bigger than my Creative one, I guess that helped.
The web cam looks not very attractive but it has some very useful features. I will try to explain what I found to fill in the missing manual. There is a button on top of the cam but I think it is a fake. The cam moves both horizontally and vertically. There are 4 LED lights, which is controlled by a switch in the middle of the USB cord. The switch is a dimmer switch but don't expect you can dim the LEDs, they only go on and off. A surprise feature is that the base is actually a rubber sucker. It also has a dial that you can turn to make it suck on the table surface.

Over all, I give it a five star as the image quality is really superb. That's what I care the most.
