5.0 out of 5 stars So Easy!
This was my first time ever trying to fly a radio control airplane. I have seen other people doing it and I thought it would be very hard but I tossed it into the air and it flew right up! It is very easy to control. I crash landed a few times but it still flies great! This plane is so much fun!

2.0 out of 5 stars Good for fun, BAD for durability
I took this out with my 5-year-old and broke the two propellers that came with it within 30 minutes. I thought, "I just suck at flying this thing.", and when I tried to order new propellers, shipping was extremely expensive, and these plastic propellers are two dollars each.
A few weeks later I saw the same plane being flow by another father with his son, both...

The battery position makes this plane "nose heavy " and ours never did get off the ground. In addition, the small nuts which hold the rear landing gear loosen up due to the vibration which could lead to losing the wheel. As "first time" R/C enthusiasts, we were very disappointed by the performance of this plane.

2.0 out of 5 stars Avoid, June 17, 2005

Avoid this plane. Although the kit is well packaged, with good instructions, nice CD and easy assembly, as a flier it is under powered, the radio controller is no better than a $10.00 Radio Shack toy car, and the electronics quality and design are poor. I purchased two planes for use with my nephew. I tested the first plane; right out of the box the power/motor control on the radio only worked intermittently- it pulsed on and off. You need the motor constantly on to launch and climb to altitude. I did get the plane up, and then found it would only turn left. Examination showed that the servo to the rudder only extended fully in one direction. The second plane flew ok once, but did a nose dive every subsequent flight. The center of gravity is now off; the body of the plane is sealed so this will be hard to adjust. A very frustrating experience overall. For the record, we tried this plane under ideal conditions: 85 degrees F., high humidity, ZERO wind speed, multiple fully charged battery packs, in a four acre cow pasture. With a stronger motor and greater attention to quality control, this could be a great starter plane.

This is a good plane to learn on although it must be flown in zero wind. It is underpowered so care must be taken to gain altitude before attempting any tight turns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flys like a champ for me., January 2, 2005

I also was one of those customers that broke a prop on my first flight. I noticed that after doing the minimul assembly of the plane that the rudder was not strait in the nuetral position but off slightly to the left. With no way to adjust this (instructions incorrectly tell you to use trim tabs on radio but radio trim tabs do not function as this is not a proportional radio) I attempted a flight anyhow. Yep you geussed it - tossed it up it banked to the left and hit the ground - smash - broken prop. After some colorful language I got the pliers out and bent the control rod to the rudder a little to make sure the rudder was exactly strait and in the middle when the controls were in the nuetral position. I also made sure that when the battery was installed it was pushed back toward the wing as far as it would go and twirled the extra wire in front of it to make sure it stayed there. Popped the remaining prop on and went back to the field. This thing now flies like a champ. I got about 12 minutes out of it before the engine started to cut out. Second flight I got around 15 minutes. Get around 15-17 minutes (depending on amount of gliding I do) now on a regular basis.
This plane only needs very small input to steering or you will induce a spiral to the ground. Trimmed correctly it will fly perfectly strait with or without power and lands on it own with no inputs from the user. I found this for under $45 through a bargain site (Bargain Blog) and am ordering a couple more since they are so cheap and fly so well. I'm an old guy and can see where child would have a problem flying this (it's easy to get confused when it's directly overhead or flying at you and many people steer the wrong way and cause a death spiral and crash). The nice feature of this plane is let go of the controls and it rights itself and glides strait allowing you to get your bearings and get control again. For those that have a problem with it climbing and wanting to stall you can just apply a little left than right rudder before it stalls and it usually will just power strait again rather than stall. I had some fun chopping the power at the top of a stall (you need to be flying into a breeze) and then just as soon as it starts to dive applying power and steer it into the wind again and it will almost do a loop.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun - for an advanced flyer only., January 29, 2005
This review is from: Megatech Cosmic Flyer Glowing 2 Channel Easy Flyer (Toy)
I picked up one of these odd looking planes, figuring that it'd be really hard to break it because the propellor was behind the wing. I was right - I haven't broken either of the propellors yet. I did manage to snap the wing and put a bunch of cracks in it, but packing tape fixed it to better than new. Hitting the trees or the ground isn't a big problem unless you hit them really hard or with the throttle still on.

Essentially, the way it works: The throttle is on or off only (next to all the way up on the left stick is still off). To turn, only the rudder moves (the vertical part of the back of the plane), and it'll move either all the way or none of the way. If you push the stick, it'll go all the way one direction, but not too fast, and stay there. If you let go, the rudder returns to center.

Using the plane is actually really, really hard. Between keeping it in the air by applying the throttle at the right times and keeping it in range (The range is more like 300 feet than 1000... Almost lost my plane to a car cause of that, yikes). The plane moves 25 miles per hour. You'd think that's cool, right? Well... That means that the range runs out in less than 30 seconds on a day without wind. Although the plane looks extremely cool when it's going so fast, and it's a lot of fun once you get the hang of it, it's definitly not a beginner plane.

To put it simply, I bought Flight Simulator 2004, as well, and that has two helicopters. I picked up flying the helicoptors in about 20 minutes. I'm still only just getting good at this R/C plane - my record keeping the thing in the air is about 2 minutes, out of the 10 minute charge or so.

I just got done flying my plane with a 15 mile per hour wind or so. I managed not to break anything this time (no running into a tree and cracking the front part of the wing, snapping the wing as it runs into the ground at 30 miles an hour after stalling, etc.), but I love the thing. If you know how to fly planes already, or you practice with a simulator a lot before trying it, this plane is a ton of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alot of Fun!, June 8, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Megatech Cosmic Flyer Glowing 2 Channel Easy Flyer (Toy)
I was very worried about buying a radio controlled airplane because I had one when I was real little and it didn't work at all. I had a much better time with this one!

When I first opened the box, the plane was almost competlely assembled which was really good. The battery takes a while to charge. I ended up buying another battery from online so I could fly longer than 10 minutes without waiting another hour to have the battery charge up.

So while the battery was charging I put on the glow int he dark stickers and attached the wing which only took a couple minutes.

Now if you buy this plane, CYCLE THE BATTERY PACK!. I learned that the hard way. If you don't it will not fly for the full amount of time. Also, when you hand launch it, make sure you toss it straight and not pointing up because that does not work.

I flew it in the park near my house over hte baseball field. It was so much fun. I never really understood how much fun flying an airplane could really be. Everyone crowded around me at the park and wanted to know where to get one too. I think you will really like this airplane

I have flown many RTF (ready to fly) planes, and this is by far the best "cheap" one. First of all To shun some light on these other reviews that say "What a piece of crap, doesnt even fly"
This plane has the one power setting for a reason, ITS A RTF GLIDER, that means it doesnt need any power setting conrol, you simpliy get it up about 150 to 200 feet and glide. The main reason people have have so many failed flights is because this plane requires conditions that most noobs do not follow through on. First of all you need very calm winds and at least a large soccer field, Also "it just goes up and comes down" YOU HAVE TO LAUNCH THE THING CORRECTLY. If your looking for a tough and i mean tough rtf this is it, easy to fly if you do it on the right day and charge your battery correctly (thats another thing that people mess up on)Great for a trainer so you can move on to 3+ channel planes. Ive owned the sky vector also by megatech and the firebird scout, and this is by far the best one ever, the v tail planes are horrible for trainers because they turn to sharp and oversteer themselves, you definatly want this one as your first rtf.
