1.0 out of 5 stars Megatech is a bad company, January 4, 2011

My son received this for Christmas. It never flew - it wouldn't charge. Paid good money for the toy. Megatech expects me to follow up by paying more good money to ship it back to them, along with money for them to ship another one back to me.

I expect that the first outlay of cash should result in a usable product. Megatech expects you to continue outlaying cash.

Stay away from them.

We purchased one of these for Christmas for my son. Unfortunately, this particular one is through a third party and not Amazon directly. As a result, it didn't get here in time for Christmas and the lack of shipping options was not apparent until after the purchase was complete. Lesson learned.

I did purchase the item through another retailer though to get it here on time as it was my son's Santa gift. The helicopter works okay but the plastic landing gear are so flimsy that they broke off in the first few flights. The actual flying though is fun. You can't control this very well but we have fun with it. In the future, I'd go for a more robust toy if I had the choice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun but Flimsy, December 30, 2010
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Megatech Sky Trooper Remote Control Micro Helicopter #MTC9519 (Toy)
I'm a 49 year old kid who got the Sky Trooper helicopter as a Christmas present. When I took it out of the box I noticed the fuselage finishing was cheap. Uh-oh, my expectations were immediately lowered. I hoped my wife hadn't spent more than $25 for it. The controller takes more batteries than you'd expect . . . turns out that's because you use an umbilical from the charger for the helicopter's internal battery. I liked that. There's a light that tells you that you have a good connection and the helo battery is charging. Unfortunately the umbilical didn't snap in snugly so I had to hold it in place for 30 minutes or arrange books and kitchen utensils to hold it in place. After it was charged I actually enjoyed learning to fly it in the house. I wasn't very good and it crashed a lot. I remembered they included a spare tail rotor, so I guessed that was the weak spot, but mine didn't last long enough to find out. I charged it four times on Christmas day and it flew 5-10 minutes on each 30-min charge. Soon I heard grinding and guessed it was not going to last much longer. I wanted to fly it outside and the air was still so even though it was cold and dark I took it out for what turned out to be its last flight. It took off and I felt like there was no limit to how high it would go ... grinding all the way. But a very light breeze was all it took for it to start drifting. You can't control the forward speed so I had to bring it down or risk losing it in somebody's yard. Despite what my wife says, I was NOT almost hit by a car landing it in the street in the dark. I was BLOCKING the car so it wouldn't run over my helicopter. It was out of juice so I took it inside and charged it again. The lower rotor blade quit spinning. It's a counter-rotating system so the whole helicopter spins uncontrollably if one of the rotors doesn't work. I think the grinding I heard was the internal gears slipping from wear & tear. There really wasn't anything helpful on the Megatech website, except now I know my wife paid too much. I'll be looking for a more durable helicopter.
