Too much of a scholarly treatise style,
By Amar "akapadiausa" (San Jose, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Meghaduta of Kalidasa (Paperback)
I wanted to read the book with accurate meaning in English (I don't understand sanskrit) with some context thrown in. The book isn't really that. It has a literal translation in English which sometimes doesn't make any sense. The text is too much of a critical scholarly treatise. Too much is in Sanskrit, and since I don't understand Sanskrit, I don't get many things. Also, there is no Word for Word translation (which I've seen in many sanskrit commentaries). So I couldn't even appreciate the beauty of the sanskrit verses. Overall I would not recommed this book if you are trying to read this work from Kalidasa in English. |
