5.0 out of 5 stars Spiritual Warfare, September 11, 2001
By
JD Wolfe (New York City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Megiddo (Paperback)
This book is phenomenal. I read anything spiritual, regilious, or generally metaphysically minded; and this book is the apex. I've read all the Left Behind; Soul Harvest series; and though they have some good points; they can't begin to match these authors fine style of writing; their ability to get into the heart and soul of a character so that you truly understand every thought they have; every breath they take; every action they undertake. It's basically a love triangle set against an apocalyptic background; and the story of two brothers love for the same woman. The fact that one of the brothers basically has to "save the world," while the other is trying his best to destroy it--only heightens the tension and excitement. This book most reminds me of The Mists of Avalon. It has the same epic scope; the same feeling of actually being "inside" the characters; and a similar tone; almost nostaglic at times. But unlike Mists; Megiddo is set for the most part in the present day; and the authors have a keen and sardonic wit. The dialogue between the brothers indicate that the authors are certainly big on the whole Robert Bly; John Bradshaw "inner child" concept; with the lack of communication among the father and his sons being the root of not only their own discontent--but a discontent furious enough to bring the world to its knees, and almost to its destruction.
You don't have to be a Christian to love Megiddo; any more than you have to be Pagan to love the Mists of Avalon. My spiritual foundations take in the beauties of all religions and philosophies. We see the beauty of a Jewish rabbi trying to come to terms with the devastation around him; and basically finding redemption through the love of his own son. We find characters who have strong faith; and others who are struggling to find anything to believe it. Wherever you fit in this particular spectrum; you will find Megiddo a worthwhile read. Hope from more from these authors.
JD Wolfe

5.0 out of 5 stars Could not put this down!, September 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Megiddo (Paperback)
I just simply loved this book and could not put it down. I read it all in one day. This was very exciting and kept me guessing what was going to happen next. It did an awesome job of developing the characters on an individual basis while at the same time showing what was happening in the world on a broader scale. I generally don't like too many subplots, but the romance subplot in this book was excellent. While "Megiddo" may not be as Biblically accurate as the Left Behind series, I find it much more entertaining to read. As a Christian I feel believers and non-believers alike will enjoy this book.

I am definitely looking forward to seeing the movie version when it comes out in theatres!
