Most of these reviews seem to be written by people who watched the Meguiar's "how to" video online or read the directions on the bottle and expected their car to look professionally detailed when they were through. This simply is unrealistic. The fact is, to see awesome results with this, you must clean and prep your paint properly. Wash and dry the car. Throughly claybar the car. Then you need to use a safe compound BEFORE using Swirl-X. I use Ultimate Compound (just pick a clear coat safe compound product). This should be rubbed into the paint with a foam applicator until it nearly disappears (not like a wax which dries to a haze). This step removes the swirl marks, etc. THEN and only THEN should you use Swirl-X with either a sponge applicator or a foam applicator. Just like working with wood, use clay bar (which picks out spurs, etc), then compound (which is like sandpaper), then swirl-x (which is like an finer sandpaper to polish the surface). Always finish with a wax of your choice.
If you do this by hand--be prepared to spend all day on your paint. Even using a machine could take you hours. But, you can save hundred of dollars by doing it yourself.

Like the last review mentioned, you need to learn how to polish. Swirl X is a polish and polishes have micro abrasives. It is like using a very very very very fine liquid sand paper. You need to work this product in till it haze up and you have to work small portion at a time. If you are using this by hand you might have to redo application 3-5 times. If you don't know how to use a polish go watch some videos online. Swirl x can remove fine swirls but it will not remove scratches :P

If your going to be uptight about Swirl marks in your paint. You MUST clean and prep your finish before using this stuff.
Clay Bar cleaning is A MUST, MUST, MUST, before you try getting out swirl marks. Operator error is usually why things "go wrong"

There's hundreds of videos on the Web about care detailing, if they can use it (Swirl X) on a $150,000+ Ferrari, you can use it on your crappy Honda, but take a minute to learn to do something the right way first.

i've seen many reviews saying this product does not work, but of course it will not work i you do not use the proper pad! i have been using it for one year already in my cars and friends cars also and it always leaves a smooth and silky finish ready to be wax with no swirls at all, but remember use the right pad, for example: try lake country ccs orange pad with swirl x after claying the paint and you will see and feel the difference!!!!

excellent cleaner, as a pre wax application, doesn't remove any swirls, but i think it covers them up, until next wash, removes hard water spots well,i think its good as a pre wax use, gives vehicle paint depth and shine,i will try ultimate polish next time before waxing,i am not a pro,i use hand application, and hesitant to buy a DA polisher machine on my 2011 black car.

pros: excellent paint cleaner, gives deep paint shine, quantity, price.

cons: covers swirls up rather than removing them until next car wash, then you will needs another application

Well, there were lots and lots and lots of swirls on my Odyssey. I used this with my G110V2 DA Polisher. The swirls were removed to some extent. And then, I mixed it 50:50 with Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and the results are very pleasing to my eyes after just 2 passes. Most of the swirls have been completely removed and the swirls that are still there, are barely noticeable. I have no problem with some barely noticeable swirls on the paint. Stuck with my mixture and buffed my Odyssey.

This is a very sticky green product and I think the stickiness provided a good medium for the Ultimate Compound to exert more/better cutting effect on the swirls. This product on its own might take 4-5 passes to remove the swirls. That's lot of back breaking work. So, I did the above mixture and the results are very pleasing as per what I was looking for. I'm an amateur and I'm not afraid to mix and match and experiment within the same brand. Even before I bought this product, I used Ultimate Compound to address the swirls. Ultimate Compound did a fantastic job at removing the swirls after 3 passes. 3 passes is a lot of back breaking work for me. I was also a little worried if I'm going to cut lot of clear with 3 passes with Ultimate Compound. So, I got this product and the rest is history. Less work (fewer passes) and faster result is what I got with a 50:50 mixture of SwirlX and Ultimate Compound. Couldn't be more happier!! I followed up with Ultimate Polish and Ultimate Liquid Wax. And now my Odyssey shines really nice.

One last thing - I tried different speed settings. There was practically no observable effect on swirls with SwirlX or Ultimate Compound or a 50:50 mixture if you have your speed set to 3 or lower.

For everyone that's hesitant on buying this product because of the negative reviews, those people more than likely did not use this product correctly. After you wash your car you DO NOT use this product first.

For best results (I use all of meguiars products btw with a DA polisher) but after you wash your car, you should pick up a good clay bar because that'll get out all the contaminants that you couldn't simply just wash away and it'll leave your car feeling really smooth. Next, use a good cutting compound as it's like a really fine grit sand paper that will remove scratches (not the deep ones that have gone through the paint) but ones that are on the clear coat, bird droppings, water spots, etc.. Now b/c the ultimate compound is a fine gift sand paper it'll leave it's own very small minor scratches so now is when you use the SratchX (a more finer grit sand paper than the compound) that will remove those scratches along with whatever was missed by the cutting compound. Because I have a dark/black glossy paint I use meguiars ultimate polish to give that deep richness color back and then finish it off with their wax for dark colored cars (but you could use their ultimate wax that'll work great) and the paint finish just looks amazing, as if it had just been painted from the factory.

Anyways, that's how I clean and protect my car so hopefully that help clarify some things for those unsure and the proper stages. Like everyone else has said, go on YouTube and watch a couple of videos, search AMMOnyc as he does car detailing for a living and shows you how each step should be done and gives you tips here and there, that's how I learned to do everything myself.
