Wash Method

Washing is defined as the removal of loose contaminants from any surface. For washing Meguiar’s recommends any Meguiar’s Car Wash Soap, Meguiar’s Microfiber Wash Mitt, Meguiar's Water Magnet Microfiber Drying Towel, and two 5-gallon buckets.

Choosing a Car Wash

Meguiar's recommends using a pH-balanced, non-detergent car wash using the correct dilution with a high quality wash mitt, like Meguiar's Microfiber Wash Mitt. All Meguiar's car washes are non-detergent and offer excellent cleaning ability while lubricating the surface to help dirt and grime glide off the paint instead of grind into the paint.

Meguiar's Ultimate Wash and Wax is the perfect way to clean and shine a car's finish in-between regular waxing, boosting its protection, glossiness and shine. Meguiar's Ultimate Wash and Wax is compatible with all Meguiar's washes and waxes. It features hybrid carnauba/polymer wax protection, incredible sudsing action safely lifts dirt, grime, and enhance gloss and shine in one easy step.

Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo and Conditioner is a rich and luxurious product designed to both wash and condition paint in one easy step. The premium formula gently foams away tough dirt, road grime and contaminants without compromising wax protection. Its premium formula gently foams away dirt and grime and its conditioners reveal color and clarity.

Meguiar's Deep Crystal Car Wash contains special ingredients that extend the life of the suds. Dirt and grime are quickly loosened and removed while wax protection is preserved. It also contains ingredients with special foam removes dirt and grime without harming the paint. It does not strip wax protection, like dishwashing detergents. Never use dish washing detergent as it may strip wax protection, promote oxidation and lead to premature deterioration of vinyl, plastic and rubber trim.

Two Bucket Method

Meguiar's recommends the “Two Bucket” method in conjunction with the Meguiar's Grit Guard to reduce the chances of inflicting swirls into the paint. The two-bucket method makes use of one bucket for a wash solution and a second bucket with just plain water to use as a rinse for Meguiar's Microfiber Wash Mitt.

  • 1. Use the water bucket to dunk the Microfiber Wash Mitt into the soapy water bucket and wash a panel or section of the vehicle.
  • 2. Dunk the Microfiber Wash Mitt and any loose contaminants it picked up, into the rinse bucket, swish it around and wring it out.
  • 3. The Grit Guard is simply a baffle in the bottom of the bucket, preventing loose contaminants from being dispersed back into the water the next time the wash mitt is rinsed.
  • 4. Now dunk the mitt into the soapy water bucket and wash the next panel or section of the vehicle. As an added safety precaution insert a Grit Guard into the soapy water bucket as well.

While I don't necessary condone drying cars with a towel (micro-marring, even with microfiber), this is an awesome one that should (for the most part) keep your car safe from any debris that might be left on there as you dry. Remember to blot not swipe! Wring out the towel often and visually and physically inspect for dirt and debris. I usually wash after a use and keep it in a sealed (clean) 5 gallon bucket so no dirt/debris gets in. You will inevitably have to wring this out a couple times while drying a car, but that can't be a negative? You want a towel twice the size go for it - but you'll be touching that to the ground or wheel or something else accidentally drawing up some dirt with it. The size and functionality of this is perfect, I highly recommend this product.

I have tried just about every drying product out there and always ended up back with my old bath towels (cotten of course) until I came across this towel. Excellent absorbsion. It takes only one towel to do the whole car, does not leave streaks. I usually use 2 or 3 bath towels. I first use the California blade then this towel. I stocked up on them because they are hard to find around here. Nothing else compares.

I am from Singapore. Instead of water hose, I use 2 buckets of water to wash my stone-black 2009 Hyundai Avante(aka Elantra in the US) in a multi-storey carpark. Usually after rinsing the car, the areas that gather most water puddles are the roof, bonnet and trunk. Previously when using cheap microfibre towels, I have to do 3-5 passes on these areas before getting it properly dried. After the first pass it will always leave streaks of small to medium sized droplets as the towels just can't absorb all the water in one go. I have to go over the same area few more times while flipping towel to the dry side. I try to stay disciplined and wash my car every weekend. Each time when it comes to drying the car I wasn't that enthusiastic as it is tiresome.

With this meg towel, I started on the roof with the most water puddles. With just 1 pass I was able to clear up water puddles and droplets on half the roof! I say "half the roof" cuz my hand is not long enough to cover the entire roof when standing on one side of the car. As I swipe the towel from right to left, the areas on the right side that has been wiped came out clean. Amazing sight to behold. This towel drinks water for breakfast. A second swipe is all it takes for the area to be completely dry.

Walked to the other side of the car, made 2 more swipes with the towel - entire roof dried and ready for meg's ultimate quik detailer. Thought to myself "Bloody Hell, should have got this baby 2 years ago!". Flipped to another dry side of the towel and went over the trunk and bonnet - done within a minute and proceeded to the door panels. This thing, as product title says, is a bloody magnet - really can absorb water well better than any other normal microfibre/bath towels and does not leave crap behind.

This towel really can absorb a lot of water similar to a chamois, yet is easier to wring out. Using just one towel I had to wring it out numerous times to dry the entire car (water was really beaded up), and once wet it does leave a slight bit of moisture behind...not enough to spot though. Best thing, it doesn't leave any lint on the surface of the car like a terry towel. Only complaint is that it could be a bit larger.

After drying my black car a few times with this towel, it performs no better than any other towel I've ever used. Sure, it holds a lot of water but that is part of the problem. It doesn't easily wring out so after just a few swipes it is completely saturated with water. Anything that I dry with it after it becomes wet leaves huge water streak marks behind unless I follow up with another dry towel. My best results have been a traditional chamois that is easy to wring and doesn't leave streaks behind after the first pass.

This product sucks. It leaves water marks on the car. It leaves major water marks on the windows. It cannot dry for crap. I think they tested this on a silver vehicle, and even that sucked. Complete waste of money. What I find BEST at drying is called "The Absorber" for $5 at Walmart.

The Meguiars water magnet lives up to its name. It dries great and does not scratch. Make sure to wash the car with a brush before drying to get all the dirt off, simple powerwashing will not remove all dirt. Do not use one of those california water blades, sand and dirt particles get swiped across the side and leave tons of tiny scrathes.

I bought 2 of these about a year ago to replace a synthetic chamois. I've found that they retain a lot of water when drying my car, so much so that by the time I'm half way through drying, they no longer collect water - this is despite ringing the heck out of them to get that water out. So what I have found to be a very effective way to dry the car is to use 1 towel to go over the panel, and then follow it up with a secondary towel to clean up the residual water on the panel. This will work for the entire car, but at the end of the drying session, both towels will be out of action and can't be used til at least the following day since they retain so much water. I hang them up to dry in the garage and then I can use them for one of our other 2 cars. I'm going to order another 4 of these towels so that I wash and dry 3 cars in one day - if I feel that way inclined, that is! Just remember, if you plan to dry your car, use one towel to get the bulk of the water, and the other one to 'tidy up'.
