I use this for macro photography and it works great.
Linus and Luna of Santa Cruz, CA
It has a manual mode, TTL works great, and also allows you to set an audible beep when the flash recharges (sometimes useful, sometimes a hindrance.)
A.H.
So far (a couple of sessions later) it has not disappointed at all.

This is a suprisingly good flash for the money. I own a CANON 430 EX II only after trying a couple of low budget after-markets that we're built incredibly cheap. You could tell just by picking one up. I thought I would have to drop some coin on a used CANON ring flash after trying one after-market that failed to perform even half way decent. This flash seams to be well built. Again you can tell by picking it up. The seams on the housing all line up and it just feels like a decent quality build. I was expecting something cheap again.
As for performance. It works just fine. I'm still playing with the exposure settings but am happy with it. The last cheapo I tried I couldn't adjust the exposure setting low enough. Everything was overexposed. Not this one. I have full range and control of it.
I highly recommend this one for the casual macro photographer on a budget.

I tried a different off-brand ring flash with my T4i and it did not work very well. With the Meike brand flash, I have had great results. I am a beginner and am reluctant to spend the $500 for the canon ring flash and this one meets my needs and surpassed my expectations. Highly recommended!

This is my first ring flash so all I can compare it to is a Canon 580EX flash. While it doesn't have the power the 580EX has it does light the subject up pretty well. It has all the abilities the 580EX has and if you can use the 580EX in manual mode then you can master this MK-14EXT. This ring flash is just like the 580EX in that when you use a fast shutter speed you will get a dark background which will make your subject stand out better. Using a small aperture (f/32) opening will give you greater depth of field but if you are using a fast shutter speed to stop motion they will work fine together. If your lucky enough to have a windless day then using a slower shutter speed can help for lighting up the background more. You can also use a shutter speed of say 1/125 second and an aperture setting of f/11 - f/16 and it will work fine. I prefer using my smallest aperture to get more in focus since it seems Indiana always has a wind blowing. There is a learning curve but it will not take long to figure it all out. You can use this flash on ETTL but that takes the fun out of using it. Be creative with the flash and you will be happier with the results.

Used it for a flower show and not only easy to use with eTTL but was able to blackout background and very balanced light of subjects.

If your looking for an inexpensive (not cheap) professional TTL macro flash ring, look no further. For all intense and purpose this is just like the Canon flash ring only much much less expensive. The quality of the Meike MK-14EXT flash ring is superb. I was hesitant in making this purchase because it was coming from China.

But it shipped through USPS and got it in 6 working days. It arrived in perfect condition with all the parts well packaged. The first half of the manual was in Chinese and the the last half was English albeit in small print. I went to the usa.canon.com support website, found their MR-14EXT flash ring, and downloaded the manual. It was in .pdf format and sure enough it looked almost identical.

Although, Canon's manual was much better and I was able to understand all of the functions of the flash ring. One other thing is that the Meike flash ring came with lens ring adapters for all Canon lenses. So yes, you can use the flash ring on any lens which you cannot do with the Canon flash ring.

I'm not worried about warranties or breaking the flash ring either. For this price, I can buy three of these flash rings and still come out way ahead.

I've used this flash several times now, with excellent results. It's easy to use and has performed flawlessly so far. It seems well made and rugged, but only time will tell. The price was attractive (I couldn't justify $500 for the Canon model) and I love to take macro close-ups of insects and flowers. I'd always wanted to try a ring-flash, and I'm glad I got this one.

I've been delving into the macro world with a Canon 60D and quickly realized I needed do something about lighting up the subject. I tried various combinations of flashlights (hand held), lamps, photo lights on tripods, but either the power cords were a nuisance, the lighting was too harsh, or angle of the lighting (to the side of the subject) prevented good shots. I did some searching and found this ring flash. At 1/3 the Canon price I was skeptical but the return policy was good insurance. I am incredibly pleased with this flash and kit!! The build quality is very good, photos online do not do it justice (looks like cheap plastic, but has a nice solid feel). My photos were dramatically improved immediately! Highly recommended! **I noted another Canon 60D user's troubled review, it really should be returned, I have no issues with mine.

Love this flash, I had another ring flash and it did not work half as good as this one. I have had a little time to play with it but found it to meet all my needs from macro to portraits.
