I love this CD, November 29, 2008
This review is from: Meiko (Audio CD)
I discovered Meiko when a friend from myspace put her song on his page. Then I saw her on [...] and recognized her song on a tv commercial. I loved the "Boys With Girlfriends" song so I bought the CD. I like every track on it, which is so rare. There is usually only two or three good ones. The "Piano Song" is fun and quirky with some funny things going on in the background. "Said and Done" is great, such a sad song for anyone that ever experienced a broken relationship. "How Lucky We Are" is inspiring and hopeful for better things to come. I think "Under My Bed" is becoming my favorite track, I really love this song. "Maybe Next Year" is a different sort of Christmas song, it made me laugh the first time I heard it. The other tracks are great, too. This is on my gift giving list for a few people!

Very decent music, but not my favorite, May 27, 2009
This review is from: Meiko (Audio CD)
There have been quite a few new female songwriters debuting lately, and I've been the beneficiary, getting a smorgasbord of music with many varying tastes. Meiko is a great offering, but I wasn't as impressed with it as some of the other female artists currently on offer. She sounds very close to Erin McCarley's, but Erin's music is much more striking and not as "same" sounding. I do love "Boys with Girlfriends", "Piano Song" and "Under My Bed", so the album overall is pleasing enough, I just wish there were a few more outstanding offerings on it. As a whole, I'll go back to the albums by Lenka, Erin McCarley, or Sara Bareiles. Meiko is another rising star, and I'm glad I took a chance on her album nonetheless. Hopefully she'll continue to give us some great music.

melancholic twilight zone, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Meiko (Audio CD)
Meiko's singing and the strings and piano accompaniment triggers the center of melancholia within the mind. Road trip music for a journey to the end of the world in isolated Patagonia. Yes, her chords are basic and simple, as another reviewer pointed out; well maybe in future more patterns will find their way in her songs. Its a reflection of the country too.. the USA has these straight C am F G type progressions around, whereas Brazil, Cuba etc have more subtle minor 7ths and all that bossa nova type stuff (like bebel gilberto, ariana calcanhotta, ceu, lenine). her music at times reminds me of aimee mann's lost in space, a similar delicious spacey melancholia. She comes across as very sincere and is very talented. thats my two cents :)
