Editorial Reviews

2008 self titled album by Meiko with 11 tracks. Meiko started at the famed Hotel Caf‚ in Hollywood, where she was a waitress and performer before local and national buzz allowed her to put aside her drink tray for good. 'I retired from the waitressing field earlier this year,' she muses. 'Getting up in the morning and writing songs is my new profession.' Listen to her songs in a single setting and it's clear that she's very good at her job. A songwriter with a keen eye and vivid narrative gift, Meiko collects jagged moments and devastating conversational flashes and turns them into deceptively simple tunes with hushed, gentle tones and stunning detailed imagery.

I discovered Meiko when a friend from myspace put her song on his page. Then I saw her on [...] and recognized her song on a tv commercial. I loved the "Boys With Girlfriends" song so I bought the CD. I like every track on it, which is so rare. There is usually only two or three good ones. The "Piano Song" is fun and quirky with some funny things going on in the background. "Said and Done" is great, such a sad song for anyone that ever experienced a broken relationship. "How Lucky We Are" is inspiring and hopeful for better things to come. I think "Under My Bed" is becoming my favorite track, I really love this song. "Maybe Next Year" is a different sort of Christmas song, it made me laugh the first time I heard it. The other tracks are great, too.

This is on my gift giving list for a few people!

Meiko's singing and the strings and piano accompaniment triggers the center of melancholia within the mind. Road trip music for a journey to the end of the world in isolated Patagonia. Yes, her chords are basic and simple, as another reviewer pointed out; well maybe in future more patterns will find their way in her songs. Its a reflection of the country too.. the USA has these straight C am F G type progressions around, whereas Brazil, Cuba etc have more subtle minor 7ths and all that bossa nova type stuff (like bebel gilberto, ariana calcanhotta, ceu, lenine). her music at times reminds me of aimee mann's lost in space, a similar delicious spacey melancholia. She comes across as very sincere and is very talented. thats my two cents :)

There have been quite a few new female songwriters debuting lately, and I've been the beneficiary, getting a smorgasbord of music with many varying tastes. Meiko is a great offering, but I wasn't as impressed with it as some of the other female artists currently on offer. She sounds very close to Erin McCarley's, but Erin's music is much more striking and not as "same" sounding. I do love "Boys with Girlfriends", "Piano Song" and "Under My Bed", so the album overall is pleasing enough, I just wish there were a few more outstanding offerings on it. As a whole, I'll go back to the albums by Lenka, Erin McCarley, or Sara Bareiles. Meiko is another rising star, and I'm glad I took a chance on her album nonetheless. Hopefully she'll continue to give us some great music.

There's a sweet down to earth quality in Meiko that is refreshing in the new overly hyped world of music these days. I know that taste is music is subjective, but in my opinion it's nice to find a clear clean articulate sound that conveys both clear emotion and a story.

For those who are into the POP sound of Madonna and the likes, this might not be for you, but if your someone into good singer songwriters and adult alternative material who are able to see beyond the lights and choreography this collection of music is a jewel.

I think the remake of Meiko's album is even better than the first. I love the new song, "Boys with Girlfriends", but my favorite is still "Hawaii".

My friend introduced me to Meiko when we went to see her Chicago, I absolutely fell in love with every song she played plus she is hilarious on stage. I would recommend everyone pick up this album and find all her unreleased stuff too and if she comes to play near you go see her!

Meiko is a local talent of Georgia and like many other Georgian artists before her, she makes great music and has a wonderful personality that is warm, inviting and personable. Meiko's music is soothing and relaxing and when you meet her in person, she doesn't disappoint.

Today I bought this cd via Amazon for less than 5 dollars! Meiko's songs are amazing; I love them all and there is no beating the price. The vocals are beautiful and the lyrics inspire. She is definitely worth supporting. I'd give this album a 5 out of 5.
