Rammstein is back and more powerful than ever!, August 3, 2004
After 3 years, the new Rammstein single is finally here. No one knew which song from their new album, entitled "Reise Reise" (Voyage Voyage), would be chosen as the first single. Earlier this year, the choice seemed to be "Rosenrot" (Rose Red). Not too long after, the group chose "Mein Teil" (My Thing/Share).
Look at "Mein Teil" as the equivalent to "Feuer Frei!" from the Mutter album. Both are harder and heavier than most tracks. The song "Mein Teil" tells the story of an accident in Germany in which a cannibal posted an ad for someone to eat. Someone actually replied and he was eaten. Literally. The text from the actual ad is included in the song:
"Suche gut gebauten 18 bis 30-Jährigen zum Schlachten
- Der Metzgermeister"
Given the text of the song, "Mein Teil"'s tone fits right along. The song opens with the sound of knives being sharpen. Till Lindemann's voice changes from his normal deep tone to an almost haunting scrawl. The entire song seems haunting in a way, making the song even better. Till's new voice continues until he finally yells: "Denn! Du Bist... Was! Du Isst...", similar to "Tier" which was on the Sehnsucht album. The chorus is just as eerie as the chorus due to the distant "Nein..." in the background.
With this being said, "Mein Teil" is explosive and shows that the next album will be nothing short of genius. Amazing.

NAPKIN NOT INCLUDED, January 25, 2006
Usually people buy the single first, since the actual album hasn't come out yet. But with "Mein Teil" here is an example of a single that is so good that you should really consider buying the single even AFTER the actual album (Reise, Reise) has already come out. Sure, you could buy the album and hear "Mein Teil", but OOH BOY! would you be missing out! Here's why:
MEIN TEIL: This is the original version (+ 15 or 20 seconds) that you hear on "Reise, Reise". At the very beginning of this version you'll hear a German voice say the following as an introduction to the song . . .
"Suche gut gebauten Achtzehn- bis Dreißigjährigen zum Schlachten
Der Metzgermeister"
Translated (loosely) means: "Seeks good-figured 18 to 30 year-old to butcher. --The Butchermaster"
And then the rest of the song is exactly like the version on "Reise, Reise". If you love hard, heavy music that has coherent lyrics that you can even follow along with, you'll love this song!
MEIN TEIL (YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT EDIT) (REMIXED BY THE PET SHOP BOYS):
WOW!!! This is what makes me have to have this single! It's my belief that a good remix should make the original song sound "new" while still capturing the spirit of the original. This remix wastes no time whatsoever getting to the point. There is definitely more of a techno feel here and the heavy bass does an outstanding job of counteracting it, making this a very well-balanced remix. Once again, WOW!
MEIN TEIL (RETURN TO NEW YORK BUFFET MIX) (REMIXED BY A. BAKER):
Blah. This one sounds like they tried to make it club-friendly but it is waaaaay too repetitive to enjoy. Just say to yourself "Denn du bist, denn du bist, denn du bist" on and on and on for about 5 minutes and you get an idea of what this remix is like.
MEIN TEIL (THERE ARE NO GUITARS ON THIS MIX) (REMIXED BY THE PET SHOP BOYS): Almost as good as the first Pet Shop Boys remix, but not quite. The two are very similar, of course this one has no guitars.
MEIN TEIL VIDEO: Not all the singles will have this video I think. I got my single from Amazon.de the day "Mein Teil" came out and it came with it. The video is shown on a special player with a screen size roughly that of a post-it note. But I think there is also an option to go online and maybe see a larger screen version of it (something I never was able to do, lacking internet). The video itself is okay, but not great and will probably offend some of us (especially if you like angels). It's no wonder they didn't show this video much (if at all) on VIVA or MTV in Germany when I was there.
RECOMMENDED: If you like the hard-hitting sound of "Mein Teil", you'll like "Zerstoeren" from Rammsteins latest album "Rosenrot". Outside of Rammstein you might want to try Oomph! "Wahrheit oder Pflicht"

I've never had so much fun listening to a macabre dinner!, December 5, 2004
"Mein Teil" (or "My Part/My Thing") is a GREAT song that is actally the hardest on Rammstein's new album (number one in most of europe) "Reise, Reise" (or "Voyage, Voyage" or even "Arise, Arise"). This CD actually has really good mixes on it. A lot of times you pick up a single and after the origanal song the rest is techno garbage- but not here! The origanal Mein Teil is great alone, but the moment you move on the "You Are What You Eat!" remix the fun begins again. Faster than the origanal (and with really good mixed in back up voices speaking gibberish like "You are what you eat!") this song is a party by itself. The "Return to New York Buffet" mix is really good once you get past the lengthy beginning (all DJ's believe it is healthy to play at LEAST 2 mins of looped music before the song begins). This one is really more of a rave song, so that's why only 4 stars. It's really repetative- but really good despite that. The people who mixed it did a really good job. Last the "There Are No Guitars On This Mix" version is also really good. I like this mix alot because it was handled very well (being without guitars and all) Especially during the chorus parts! =D Try it! If you love hard music you've GOT to love it!
