Country, folk and pop songs sung in German, July 31, 2002
This review is from: Meine Art Liebe Zu Zeigen (Audio CD)
A previous reviewer bemoans the number of cover versions of songs he's familiar with in English. As I don't know any German, I decided this would make an ideal start to a collection of German music - I always like to experiment. I wasn't disappointed.
I was expecting a fairly typical selection of pop songs of the sixties and seventies (and got some), but I was pleasantly surprised (being a country music fan) to find country well-represented, and not just by the obvious songs. Of course, Daliah's covers are very much pop-styled, but that's fine by me.
Country songs translated for Daliah include Delta Dawn (Tanya Tucker, also an American pop hit for Helen Reddy), Snowbird (Anne Murray), Turn your radio on (Ray Stevens), I believe in music (Mac Davis), Sing me an old fashioned song, Lonely hearts club (both Billie Jo Spears, who was more popular in Europe than her homeland), River road (Crystal Gayle) and - biggest surprise of all - Whisper (Lacy J Dalton).
Pop and folk songs translated for Daliah include If you could read my mind (Gordon Lightfoot), Words (Bee Gees), What have they done to my song, ma (Melanie), How I love them old songs (Mickey Newbury), You've got a friend (James Taylor), Morning has broken (Cat Stevens), Soldiers who want to be heroes (Rod McKuen), I get a kick out of you (the Cole Porter classic), Imagine (John Lennon) and Baby don't change your mind (Gladys Knight).
Also here is a German version of Never on Sunday, which began as a French song but was translated into English in the sixties.
This is not a complete list of covers, and there are some originals, but it gives you an idea of what songs Daliah liked to record at that time. Daliah has a lovely voice. Although these covers cannot match the originals, they are distinctive.
If you like songs in German, and you don't mind cover versions, this is worthy of consideration.

60's actress can really SING!!, April 18, 2002
This review is from: Meine Art Liebe Zu Zeigen (Audio CD)
If u like Daliah the actress(check out DVD "Whip & the Body"), then u will love Dalih the singer. 60's actress turned 70's singer has some really great moments on this CD. My favorite's are european cover's of american hit's such as "If U Could Read My Mind" & "Look What They Done To My Song", a fabulous 30's sounding retro of "I Get A Kick Out Of U" & "Mut" which has a pounding disco beat. Collection spans 12 years 70-82. Daliah actually recorded non-stop until 1992...
