This review is from: Meinrad Craighead: Crow Mother and the Dog God: A Restrospective (Pomegranate Catalog) (Hardcover)
This is a retrospective of Meinrad Craighead's art over her lifetime. The book is expensive but the color plates are gorgeous. While I did not find Davies', Rutter's or Parry's comments particularly edifying, I was very interested in what Craighead had to say about her work and life. There is also a chronology with photos of Craighead's life which I also enjoyed and found valuable in understanding her art. Anyone interested in goddess religion and/or shamanism will find this ex-nun's explorations riveting. This artist has a unique vision of the spiritual.

This retrospective of Meinrad Craigheads images has been MORE than I was expecting. The images have brought me to a profoundly deep place within my own being........a place I have been close to for a very long time. I have been drawn in to a great silence, and a very fertile place of darkness that is filled with great light. It touches me, nourishes me, comforts me, and challenges me to enter more deeply into the mystery of my own being and my own existence......

A feast for the Soul,

This review is from: Meinrad Craighead: Crow Mother and the Dog God: A Restrospective (Pomegranate Catalog) (Hardcover)
Everyone on a spiritual quest to find the archetypal feminine should read this book. It takes you on a rich and powerful, often disturbing journey into a labyrinth of images and words, echoing Meinrad's experience of sitting before the Black Madonna and realising in the search for Her we have really found ourselves, in our rawness and pain, and the Madonna is a container for that grief. This book is a beautiful container for the Soul loss many of us experience in our lives. I will return to it again and again.

Rich symbology in paintings and text. The accounting of one woman's life. Meinrad Craighead is a spiritual guide through the animal/human world via paintings and ritual.I keep this book on a table in my living room. The Great Mother and Dog God are here with me. I can enter a place beyond words. The new DVD about the life of Meinrad Craighead will provide a fine companion to the book, Crow Mother and the Dog God.Meinrad Craighead: Crow Mother and the Dog God: A Restrospective (Pomegranate Catalog) |
