About the Author
Native Manhattanite Paul Jared Newman, having learned three or four chords, formed his first group, The Lower Class, at age 13. After his "conversion" to nylon strings there were classical music studies and guitar with Rey de la Torre at UC Berkeley, followed by an extended European sofjoun touring with local bands and performing solo.
Returning to the States, Newman was active on the New York Rock club circuit throughout the '80s as an involvement with music arranging and publishing was developing. Gravitating back to the "Spanish" guitar, he co-founded American International Guitar Publications in 1990, editing and producing Dennis Koster's acclaimed Keys to Flamenco Guitar series among numerous classical, flamenco, and fingerstyle publications.
Mr. Newman stays active in both the pop and classical spheres; he has published many arrangements for solo and duo guitar, often under the nom de plume Jared Walker, as well as a number of instructional books in a range of guitar styles. He divides his time between New York City and Woodstock, New York.
