Excellent resource of jazz lines!,
By Music Lover (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mel Bay Essential Jazz Lines : Guitar the Style of Joe Pass with play-along CD (Paperback)
This books provides fantastic sounding Joe Pass style jazz lines. It's essential a library of jazz lines based on chord type. If you're looking to add some cool Joe Pass lines to your playing (without getting into the theory of why/how they work), then this book is perfect.
The lines are split up by chord type: lines to play over a m7 chord, lines for a v7 chord, lines for the major chord, lines for II V I progression, lines for minor ii V, etc. I tend to note the lines I really like and keep coming back to the book to refresh them or add more to my arsenal. If I need more lines for a major chord, I flip to that section and go over some. This is really one of my favorite and most frequented books.

This review is from: Mel Bay Essential Jazz Lines : Guitar the Style of Joe Pass with play-along CD (Paperback)
This is a good book for jazz ideas (phrases). Every Jazz guitarist can use these ideas and incorporate them in his music. There are ideas for minor chords , Dominant Chords and Major Chords.
However , if you're looking for a book on learning how to play Jazz, then this is the wrong book. For example, It will not help you develop your (mental or physical) skills or help you understand Jazz forms. |
